October 3rd's Book Beginnings and Friday 56

So glad it is Friday.  It has been a long week.

Plus that means it is time for Book Beginnings and Friday 56.

I just finished a new middle grade mystery with a science basis.  It's even got instructions for gadgets you can make after you are done reading the book.  It's called Nick and Tesla's High-Voltage Danger Lab by "Science Bob" Pfludfelder and Steve Hockensmith.

For the record, the book doesn't actually come out until next month, but I was able to get an ARC via Amazon's Vine Program.

With that out of the way, here's how it begins.

Someone climbed into Joe Devlin's cab, and he put down his newspaper and looked in the rear view mirror and started to say, "Where to?"
He froze.

Jumping to page 56, we find:

As Nick and Tesla walked along the fence toward the road, the dogs trotted along beside them growling.

It's been a fun read, and I even laughed a few times along the way.

The book comes out November 5th, and I think it would make a great Christmas present.  Come back on Sunday for my full review of the book.

  1. That's a very good beginning! "Someone climbed" already makes the reader curious. Now I'm interested in why he froze! :D

    1. Which is why I stopped there. The next sentence answers the question.

    1. I seem to be about 50/50 with the MG books these days. They are still plenty of fun.

  3. Nothing like growling dogs walking beside you. (: Why did he freeze? What did he see?
