May 16th's Book Beginnings and Friday 56

Welcome to Friday, which can only mean one thing - Book Beginnings and Friday 56 time!

This week's book is Boiled Over, the second in the Maine Clambake Mysteries by Barbara Ross.

And it starts with:

"Excuse me!  Sorry.  Coming through."

I've got to admit, I struggled to find a good quote to pull from page 56.  It's not that it is filled with spoilers, but most of the page is exposition.  It's good and needed information in context, but it also doesn't lend itself to an interesting cherry picked line.  I finally came up with:

Cindy recovered from the surprise of seeing me at their door.

I think that works rather well, right?

I read most of this book on Thursday.  The review will probably be up early next week, but I loved it.  Wish we didn't have as long to wait for the sequel, but since this just came out, it will be a while.

  1. Yes, I think it works. I had the same problem. Sometimes some just jumps out at you and other times you really have to search. BOILED OVER is sitting right next to me waiting to be read. Thanks Mark!

    1. Most of the time, I don't have much difficulty finding a good line to pull, but this one I had to read several times before I found a good sentence.

I hope you enjoy just as much when you get to read this book.

  2. Boiled Over is only a few books away for me! I haven't heard of the author or heard much about the book so I'm thrilled to see a good review!

    1. The first was nominated for an Agatha if that helps. I've now read both in the last 5 weeks and enjoyed them both.

  3. I hate having to wait so long for the sequels! If I were smart I'd not read any book until the entire series is out :) Thanks for sharing! Here is my beginning at Shut Up & Read. (New follower!)

    1. If I wait too long to read a series, however, I start to feel overwhelmed by how many there are, and then I can't seem to start them either. Reading as they come out is best, at least for me.

  4. LOVE the book's cover. I want to be there, eating a slice of watermelon! The opening grabbed me too and made me wonder what's going on. I'd read more to find out.

    1. Nope, no mall shopping in the opening, although a mom does go shopping off page in the book.

  8. Sometimes it's a struggle to find a good 56, but I like the one you chose. Why was Cindy surprised?

    1. If I told you why Cindy was surprised, you wouldn't read the book. :)
