May 9th's Book Beginnings and Friday 56

Welcome to Friday.  Around here, that means it is time for Book Beginnings and Friday 56.  But before we get there, I would like to point out the review and giveaway I have going for Death Runs Adrift.  Follow the link to enter.

But this week's selection for these memes is Death of a Mad Hatter by Jenn McKinlay.

This is the second in her Hat Shop Mystery series.  I'm not much past page 56 myself, but so far I'm really enjoying it.

It begins with:

"Take it off, Scarlett.  You look like a corpse."

And on page 56 we find:

Suddenly, I had the urge to kick someone, a man, any man, really hard in the posterior.  Irrational, I supposed, but there it was.

Not sure how much progress I will get made on the book this week, but I'm sure I will have it ready to review at some point next week.

    1. I read the first cupcake mystery last summer, and now I'm reading these. Obviously, I have a lot of others from Jenn to catch up on. This series is certainly fun.

  2. Sounds like a delightful cozy mystery. I love the cover, and the opening made me curious: What could she possibly be wearing that makes her look like a corpse?

  3. I think every woman sometime in her life has had a similar feeling. It makes me like the protagonist quite a bit actually.

    1. I went with that 56 because it made me chuckle, although if I were in kicking distance I certainly wouldn't have been.
