January 5th's Book Beginnings and Friday 56

Welcome to the first Friday of 2017, and you know what that means.  It's time for the first Book Beginnings and Friday 56 of the year!

But before we get there, I'm going to do a little shameless self-promotion.  I have a group (formerly a page) on Facebook called First Line Monday.  As you might expect from the name, members post the first line of whatever they are reading on Monday.  (Or if you are like me, you save up and post a couple first lines over the course of the day.)  This isn't a place to to promote your blog or reviews, but a place to celebrate a well written first line.  I do hope you'll come and join us.

Okay, commercial over.  I promise.  Now, on to this week's book, which is Nun Too Soon by Alice Loweecey.

Yes, the main character in this book is a former nun now running a PI business.  It is a lot of fun, as you can see from how the book begins:
Giulia Falcone-Driscoll - formerly Sister Mary Regina Coelis - slammed open the door to her private office.
"Sidney, I'm going to kill my husband."

But it's not all fun and games, as you can see from this quote from page 56, which also ends chapter 10:

Giulia pressed her lips together.  She saved her working document and reminded herself, again, not to judge the client.

Yes, this book is just as much fun as it sounds.  I will be reviewing it next week, so I hope you'll come back for the official review.

  6. I went to a Catholic college and became close to several nuns. I could definitely see a couple of them making the switch to PIs :)
