April 5th's Book Beginnings and Friday 56

Welcome to the first Friday of April.  Time to check in with this week's Book Beginnings and Friday 56.

This week, I'm featuring Called to Justice by Edith Maxwell.

This is the second in her Quaker Midwife series.  It's set in 1888 and is a lot of fun.

The first line is certainly intriguing:
The day had seemed an unlikely one to include death.

Now doesn't that grab you attention.  Since I read an eARC of the book, we'll skip ahead of 56% of the way into the book, where we find this:

"Now I know something more of your past, I see this killing of a young, pregnant girl must be extra painful for you."

That's all you get for today.  I hope you'll come back on Monday for my full review.

  1. Sounds good. This week I am reading Alice & the Assassin by R. J. Koreto - a historical mystery. Happy reading!
