Snoopy’s Ready for some Hockey Fun in This Ornament

Charles Schultz loved hockey.  Any fans of Peanuts wouldn’t be surprised by this at all considering how much hockey popped up in the comic strip.  The Winter Fun with Snoopy ornament series from Hallmark played off this for its third miniature ornament.

No, Snoopy isn’t actually playing hockey.  Instead, he’s heading to the rink to play.  He’s wearing his red and green cap and carrying a hockey stick.  Woodstock is riding on Snoopy’s hockey stick carrying a hockey stick his own size.

Being a miniature ornament, it really is that simple.  There isn’t the size for much more than that.  There’s isn’t a lot of detail, either, but you don’t need more detail than that in this ornament.  You know exactly what is going on, so it is perfect.

Actually, I do have to amend that.  As I was typing up my review, I did have to wonder if Snoopy and Woodstock are going to play, or if they have come from a great victory.  All we know for sure is that hockey excites them based on the huge smiles on their faces.

Even though Snoopy is walking, you can’t set this ornament out to be displayed.  His feet aren’t actually level since they caught him mid-step, so there isn’t a solid base.  Couple that with the weight of Woodstock and the stick behind Snoopy, and you get an ornament that tips over.

You will find the 3 in a Christmas tree on the bottom of one of his feet.  It’s hard to see, but it is there.  That’s a factor of just how small this ornament is.

The loop for hanging the ornament is on the top of Snoopy’s hat.  Despite what I just said about the balance of the ornament for standing, it is actually balanced for hanging, and he looks great when you slip a hook through the loop.

The one thing I don’t like is the 2000 on the hockey stick.  That was the year the ornament came out, but it doesn’t seem to fit with the rest of the ornament.  And really, why would you have that on a hockey stick, anyway?  I like it when Hallmark artists can work the date into the ornament, but in this case, it just doesn’t work.

It’s a rather disappointing feature in an otherwise fun ornament.  Here’s to a great season of hockey, Snoopy, and lots more winter fun.

Collect all the ornaments and enjoy more Winter Fun with Snoopy.
