April 14th's Book Beginnings and Friday 56

Welcome to another Friday, which means another edition of Book Beginnings and Friday 56.

This week's book is Whale of a Crime by Karen MacInerney.


                                                           

This is the seventh in the Gray Whale Inn series, and it was the first book in the series in a couple of years.  It was so wonderful to be back!
Being set on an island off the coast of Maine, it's no surprise the book starts off with a sailing reference.

"Red sky in morning, sailor's warning."  I'd heard it a thousand times, but as I stood staring out at the cloudless sky suspended like a blue bowl over the Gulf of Maine, I reflected that the day had turned out perfectly after all.
Boy, was I wrong.

Page 56 finds us witnessing a fight between Natalie, our main character, and her sister Bridget about Bridget's grown daughter Gwen.

Bridget said, "That's why I've decided Gwen's coming back to California with me."
I looked up from the chocolate-chip-studded batter.  "What?"
"I'm taking Gwen home with me," she said.
"Have you talked to her about that?"
