Start Collection Ornaments Good Enough to Eat with the Debut of Season's Treatings

Very few things say Merry Christmas like baked goods.  Even those who normally don't eat sweets produce treats for their friends and family to enjoy.  That's the idea behind Season's Treatings, a series of ornaments from Hallmark that started in 2009.

These ornaments don't seem to have clever names, which will become an issue down the line of it continues for a long time.  However, this first ornament looks scrumptious.  For the first round, we are celebrating sugar cookies.  The ornament consists of a cookie sheet with three cookies on it.  There's a Christmas tree, a snowman, and a snow flake.  All three have been decorated with lots of love and multiple colors.  The tree has a yellow star on top and ornaments dotting it.  The snowman has a black hat, orange nose, and even a striped scarf.  The snowflake has a large blue background with the flake itself raised up and painted in white.

The cookies aren't just painted with regular paint.  Instead, the paint reflects light, meaning it catches your eye even with just the Christmas tree lights turned on.  Small amounts of glitter have been applies to help with the light reflection as well.  Hallmark often goes overboard with glitter on their ornaments, causing it to get on everything when you handle one.  That's certainly not the case here.  It's enough to catch the light but not overwhelming.

In the upper left hand corner of the ornament is a rolling pin with the year, 2009, across it.  It's at an angle, but it actually looks straight when you hang it on your tree.

Speaking of which, this is definitely an ornament to hang.  With a nice flat surface, it lays flat just fine.  But it looks so much better hung from the little circle in the left hand corner designed for your ornament hanger.  As I said, the rolling pin and the year on it are now straight, but the cookies are crooked when hung.  Frankly, I find it looks more festive that way.

For collectors, there is a little 1 in a Christmas tree on the back, denoting that it is the first in the series.  It's also got the year on the back just in case you missed it on the front.  There's nothing else of note on the back.  Unlike some ornaments, this is definitely a one sided design.

About the only downside is how good everything looks.  The ornament always makes me hungry for sugar cookies or any sweets I can get my hands on.

The first Season's Treatings was a surprise hit in 2009, quickly selling out and skyrocketing prices on the secondary market.  It's hardly surprising with how cute the ornament truly is.  If that's any indication of future success, this particular series will continue for many Christmases to come.
