Cogsworth and Lumiere Show Their Different Personalities in This Ornament

One of the many fun parts of Disney's Beauty and the Beast is watching Cogsworth and Lumiere, the servants turned into a clock and candelabra, constantly bickering.  That relationship is perfectly captured in an ornament released to The Disney Story in 2010.

This ornament is the third of three featuring various pairs from the movie.  Cogsworth is out front and has a very worried look on his face.  His hands are even almost in a defensive position.  Lumiere is peaking out from behind him.  Lumiere is smiling like crazy.  One touch that I like is that Lumiere's "flames" on top of his head and both hands are covered in glitter so that they actually sparkle a little.  I'm not a fan of glitter overall, but here it is used to the perfect effect.  While there is definitely a front side to this ornament, if you turn it around you'll see that they keep the great detail all the way around.  Lumiere has a full body, for example, even though we only see his face and hands from the front.

I just love how these two very different personalities are captured in one glance.  Even if you haven't seen the movie, you'd get that Cogsworth is the worrywart while Lumiere is much more carefree and happy.

The two provide a nice base for the ornament, so you could display them if you wanted to.  However, they are meant to be hung, and Disney has provided a nice red ribbon for that purpose.  They hang straight when you pick it up by the ribbon.  Oddly, the hook the ribbon goes through doesn't seem quite big enough, so if the ribbon gets off center, you have to pull it through by hand instead of it resetting itself.

Like the other ornaments from The Disney Store, this one is a bit on the big side.  It's four inches tall.  Despite the use of a light (and fragile) plaster, it's also a tad heavy.  You'll definitely want to be careful and hang this on a strong branch with plenty of room to dangle.

Since this is one of three Beauty and the Beast ornaments released this year, I do have to talk a bit about the perspective.  These guys are the same size exactly as Belle and Beast are in their ornament, but since so much of their character is their face, they actually seem a little bigger.  Now I get the fact that we'd lose too much detail if they were done to scale, so it doesn't bother me that much here, but there's a part of me that wishes they had tried a little harder to have things a little closer to scale.

Scales issues aside, this is another fun ornament for anyone who loves the Disney classic.  Cogsworth and Lumiere will be hanging on my tree for some time to come.
