This week, I'm reading A Spoonful of Murder by Connie Archer. And here's the first sentence:
"I know you worry about me, Mom, but you don't have to."
Yes, that is the main character, not the murder victim saying that.
And, from page 56 we get:
Janie reached out and put her hand protectively over Meg's. Meg was trying hard to regain control.
The book itself? It's a bit slow overall, but I'm trying to keep an open mind about it. I'm about 100 pages in, so we'll see what happens.
I hope the book picks up for you. The first line sounds like a typical thing that teenagers say to their parents.

However, the opening is misleading. When you find out what is really going on, it packs a punch.

It's one of those that is hard to explain. It's not a bad book, but it feels like the author had an idea for two books and combined them into this one. It's just not quite working - at least not yet. It could still get better.
