I'm actually reading a biography this week, not the fiction I normally read. I'm reading Gladiator: A True Story of 'Roids, Rage, and Redemption by Dan Clark, better known as Nitro from the original American Gladiators. But that doesn't mean it doesn't have some great lines for me to share.
For example, from the Introduction:
Come at me the wrong way tonight and you may not walk out of here alive.
And chapter one starts with:
What are the worst three words a child can here? We're getting divorced.
Jumping ahead to page 56:
Each day I feel more and more suffocated until I literally cannot breathe. I sit on Theresa's balcony one evening under the flow of the warm Southern California sunset, so consumed with the pressures I can't see straight. I have to remind myself to breathe. I take a good long inhale and feel the stirring of dreams in my stomach. I know I'm not done. I know something good is going to happen. I just have no idea what.
I've actually come at this book because Dan Clark started one of the mud runs I love to do. I'm really enjoying the book, and I'm almost half way through it.
I should get back to reading non fiction. I like the lines you have chosen to share with us. A book worth looking at.....

DeleteI remember my son watching the American Gladiators in the 90s. Clark's AG name definitely rings a bell. Thanks for sharing. I didn't know he had a book out.

I didn't watch the original show that often mainly because I didn't watch much TV back then. But I did catch it some, which is one reason I was interested in this book.
DeleteI like the description of his feelings. That's more introspective than I would have expected from a book about American Gladiators! Sounds like a good story.

It has proved to be very introspective. He's a man who has faced the results of his life, and I'm enjoying that part of the book.
