January 9th's Book Beginnings and Friday 56

For some reason, my internal calendar is all off tonight.  I almost forgot to post Book Beginnings and Friday 56!  Shocking, right?

This week's book is The Blood of Olympus by Rick Riordan.

I know, I know, I'm just now reading it.  I would have liked to have gotten to it when it came out in October, but I just couldn't find the time.  So many books and all that.

I've loved some of Rick's openings.  While this one did make me curious, I didn't think it was his best.

Jason hated being old.

Yes, I know, I'm getting to be a bit of a first line snob.  That's good if you know the characters and series, but it's not the best overall.

I'm not too far past page 56, but here's a great quote from that page.

Their first shadow-travel experience together, two days ago, had been a total fiasco, possibly the most humiliating episode in Reyna's long career.  Perhaps someday, if they survived, they would look back on it and laugh, but not now.  The three of them had agreed never to speak of it.  What happened in Albania would stay in Albania.

And no, I don't know if Albania comes up again in the story, but I had to laugh at that paragraph.

Have a great weekend, everyone.

  1. Rioridan is on my list of authors I haven't read that I plan on trying this year. I'm definitely intrigued by the 56! Sounds like it was quite catastrophic!

  4. Although I've never had much interest in gods and goddesses, I'm tempted to read this book because I've heard good things about the author. I hope you enjoy it.

    1. If you read Percy, you need to read the next chapter. They expand things in some fun ways, and are mostly good.
