Fun in the Sun and Water

I love summer.  Not only am I usually cold, so this offers me a chance to warm up, but I also love to swim and play in the water.  So, naturally, that means I love Cookie Cutter Vacation.

For this final ornament in the Cookie Cutter Through the Year series, our mouse friend is enjoying some time in the water.  He’s floating in the water on an inner tube.  There’s sand on both sides of the water, so maybe he’s at a river or lake.  There’s a snail on the close side, and we can see his umbrella and towel on the far side.  This being summer, the sun is up in the nice blue sky.  It looks like a perfect day to enjoy the water.  All of this is framed in a shell shaped cookie cutter.

Of course, there are small touches.  The mouse is really floating on a piece of candy since we can see “sweet” printed on part of it.  The sun is a swirl that looks like frosting, and the umbrella and snail’s shell could be pieces of hard candy.  I just love those touches in this series.

Even without them, this is a fantastic ornament.  The scene is fun and really invokes the feel of a lazy summer vacation.  Just looking at it, I want to grab my book and head to the beach to soak up some sun and jump in the water.

We’ve already had a similar themed ornament, 2013’s A Tropical Holiday.  That one was a companion piece to the official Cookie Cutter Christmas series, so it features a silver cookie cutter and a tan mouse.  Those subtle differences are important.  It featured the mouse lounging on a beach chair in a sun/flower shaped ornament, so it is a very different feel, which is good.

There are six ornaments in this series, and since this is the final one, we get a six in a Christmas tree shape on the back next to the handle.

The bottom of the shell actually provides a flat enough base that you could set this out if you wanted to.  I’d want to make sure it wasn’t a surface that was going to be bumped, but it should be fairly steady.

Or you can hang it.  As is usual with these ornaments, you’ll find that it hangs straight.

This ornaments have proved to be fun and clever, not that I expected anything less from them.  If you’ve been enjoying them, you’ll be happy to finish off your collection with Cookie Cutter Vacation.

And here are the earlier Cookie Cutter Through the Year ornaments.
