Y Get This Ornament?  For Star Wars Fans, the Question is Y Not

We are down to the final two ornaments in Hallmark’s Star Wars Storyteller series, and we get one for the good guys and one for the bad guys this year.  The good guys get the Y-Wing Starfighter.

These ships were used by the Rebels in the final fight against the Death Star in the original Star Wars.  And this ornament is an extremely detailed recreation of the ships from the movie.  You can tell from looking at it how it got its name.  But what I love about it is that the fact that you can see and feel the various parts of the ship.  It’s those details that make these ornaments so amazing.

Since this is a Storytellers ornament, it plugs into the newer Power Cord (sold separately).  As soon as you plug it in, you’ll see the light in the cockpit light up.  But the real fun begins when you press down on the R2 unit sitting on top of the ornament.  That’s when the sound and light show starts.

Unfortunately, since this ship isn’t in much of the movie, it doesn’t have much of a show by itself.  There are a few lines from the beginning of the climactic battle, and that is it.  By itself, this ornament is active for about 40 seconds, and the lights in the cockpit change color during that time, which is fun.  Add to that the others, however, and it is fun to see how it adds in to the entire 20+ minute show that these ornaments put on.  It would be nice if the individual ornament’s show lasted longer than those 40 seconds I mentioned, but I get why it doesn’t – it just wasn’t in that much of the movie.

Since the cord connects to the bottom of the ornament, you can’t get away with setting it out, at least not and have it connected to the cord.  However, if you go to hang it on your tree or a wreath, you’ll find that it hangs straight.

Speaking of the cord, the connection on this ornament is a bit spotty.  If you move the ornament around too much after you’ve connected it, the connection might come lose.  Fortunately, this doesn’t seem to be an issue unless you are giggling it.

Also, this ornament is rather quiet.  The rest of the ornaments can drown it out when they are all play.  It does seem like Hallmark’s magic ornaments have wildly varying sound levels, and it would have been nice to have everything from this series have a similar volume level.

Join the rebels one last time with the Y-Wing Starfighter.  If you’ve been collecting the Storytellers ornaments, you’ll be glad you added it to your collection.
