October 15th's Sunday/Monday Post

Time for another Sunday/Monday Post.  As usual, I'll be linking up to:

It's Monday, What Are You Reading?

Honestly, there isn't much to report this week.  It was a fairly quiet week all told.

The exciting things are happening on Saturday.  I'm writing this just after noon on Saturday, and I am already back from Ornament Debut at Hallmark.  This is their second big batch of ornaments for the year.  Yes, there are still more to come in November and December, but between what came out in July and what came out today, the majority are already out.  However, Hallmark is having shipping issues, so not everything is hitting all the stores.  I was lucky in that my store had most of their ornaments already.  However, I'm still waiting for one I wanted from July and one that should have been out today but they haven't gotten yet.

But where's what I did get.

And it's game day!  It's been two months since the last one (some other stuff came up last month), and I'll be heading over there as soon as I get this posted.  I'm really looking forward to it.

This Past Week on the Blog:

Yes, I did stick to my original posting schedule this last week.

This Coming Week on the Blog:

Sunday - Book Review: Bruce Wayne - Not Super by Stuart Gibbs and Art by Berat Pekmezci
Monday - Novella Review: Mistletoe and Murder by Connie Berry
Tuesday - Movie Review: Fatal Vows
Wednesday - Book Review: Murder by the Seashore by Samara Yew
Thursday - TV Show Review: Ahsoka - Season 1
Friday - Book Review: A Nutcracker Nightmare by Christina Romeril
Saturday - Weekly TV Thoughts

Book Haul:

Yep, it's going to be another full week.

Let's start with my preorder of Let it Crow! Let it Crow! Let it Crow!  Yes, Donna Andrews is back with another new Christmas mystery in her Meg Langslow series.  I actually did turn down an offer of an ARC since I have all of these books in hardcover.  Plus, it's part of my Christmas tradition to read it in December.  I'm very much looking forward to it.

I also have a couple of sale ebooks.  The first is Lost Among the Angels by Alice Duncan.  I can't even remember how this book crossed my radar at this point, but it is the first in a series set in 1920's LA.  Sounds like something I would enjoy.  And I spotted that it was free today (Saturday).  Not sure how long that will last, but I couldn't pass it up.

Earlier in the week, I also snagged The Body Business by Gay Yellen when it was free.  Sadly, that was a one day deal, but it isn't that expensive if you want to give it a try.  It's the first in a series, and I thought it sounded good, but I haven't read anything by this author yet.

A couple of weeks ago, I had some Kindle Points that were close to expiring.  Yet, I was just barely shy of having enough to get an award.  So I snagged a short story, "The Maine Attraction" by Cathy Wiley.  (I said, I was close, right?)  I've enjoyed Cathy's books that I've read.  I know nothing about this short story, but the fact that she wrote it is good enough for me.

Of course, I immediately claimed my reward and bought a book with it.  That book was Joshua Tree by Sandy Dengler.  I've been a fan of Sandy's books for decades, and this is in her Jack Prester series, which are mysteries set in various National Parks.  I actually have two books in the series sitting on my Kindle waiting to read.

Rounding out my books for the week is an ARC of The Proof of the Pudding.  This is the upcoming November release in Rhys Bowen's Royal Spyness series.  I'm looking forward to reading it in just a couple of weeks.

What I'm Currently Reading:

I haven't made it that far into A Parfait Crime by Maya Corrigan yet, but I'm already hooked.  We start with a suspicious death from a house fire and a mysterious body in a freezer in the first chapter.  I'm dying to know exactly what is going on.  However, I just haven't had much reading time Friday.  I was hoping to get some time in to read it before game day Saturday, but I ran out of time.  Oh well, I'll have it to look forward to on Sunday and Monday.

Have a great week!

  1. It's such fun to start a book and be immediately engaged. That happened for me this week, too.

  2. I love the ornaments! We have a Hallmark store close to us but I haven't been in it yet. I love when a book immediately grabs my attention. Enjoy game day and happy reading!

  3. I love the Radiator Springs ornaments. I used to collect the Snow Village and other Department 56 stuff but I've slacked off a bit the last few years.

The 20's LA series sounds fun.

  4. Nice post, Mark. I can happily report that as of today (Sunday), Lost Among the Angels is still free on Kindle--so I snagged it too.

I've collected lots of Hallmark ornaments over the years, but as I've been trying to downsize these past few, I've limited myself to one new Hallmark ornament each year, and it must prominently display the date.

  7. Thank you for visiting my blog and for reading my long, long post about our recent trip to connect with our paternal grandfather. I didn't know that Hallmark had ornament previews. That explains why I can never find any of the cool ones! Ha!

  8. Hope you enjoyed your Game Day. As much as I love Hallmark, I have not been to one of their stores in years. I think there's still one in the mall near me, but I rarely go to the mall anymore. I haven't seen Fatal Vows yet. I'm hoping to watch it this week. Well, now I'm craving a parfait, so I guess I'll get going. Have a great week! :)

  9. Looks like a good ornament haul and book haul, both!

I'm curious: do you put all your ornaments out every year, or rotate them from year to year? About the only Hallmark ornaments we have and actively seek out are some of the Star Trek ones (mostly the ships from the shows we love best.) Not that I don't enjoy the other Hallmark ornaments! But we already have a tree's worth of ornaments with a lifetime of memories attached to them. :-)

    Have fun at game day!

  11. I love the ornaments! Especially the penguins. I read Let it Crow! x3 and really enjoyed it. It's really become one of my favorite series and I'm looking forward to going back and reading it from the beginning since I started pretty late. Have a great week!

  13. I love seeing the ornaments! Interesting hot they are rolling them out. I love the ones that feature dogs, especially Westies. BTW I recently discovered the Apple watch face that has Snoopy and Woodstock - so cute! Your new books look good. Have a great week!

  15. Ornament Day is such a fun idea. The ornaments you came home with are great!

Bruce Wayne - Not Super sounds delightful. I know a few folks who would love to read that.

  18. So many ornaments! Your new books all sound good too. I enjoyed Let It Crow! I'm pretty new to that series by Donna Andrews and am trying to catch up on the ones that were published before I started reviewing the series. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

  19. Glad you are enjoying getting the current additions to your collection.
You always have a book (or two or more) that gets my interest. I love the names of Donna Andrews' books. I enjoyed one or two Royal Spyness but I would really have to play catch-up.
    Happy Reading!

At home, we only use bird ornaments, because well, what do you find in a tree? lol

  21. The new Hallmark ornaments are adorable. I think my favorite is the Long Letter to Santa with the three penguins. Lost Among the Angels does sound like something I would like too. I will have the check that one out. I hope you have a great week, Mark.

  22. I've been buying handmade Christmas ornaments from a friend who sells them at craft fairs, etc. and giving them to our adult kids, none for ourselves anymore, as I'm not a collector and our trees have gotten smaller over the years as the number of ornaments grew larger! The Maya Corrigan series looks good and I'm adding it to my TBR if I haven't already.
