It's Monday, What Are You Reading?
Actually, for me, it's a long weekend. We get President's Day off at my job. This is the first place I've worked where that has been the case. I thought this was one of those holidays that the government, banks, and schools observed but no one else did. No big plans for the weekend, but I'm enjoying the time off while I can because the next couple of weeks are going to be insanely busy. Yep, it's quarter end time at the end of February. I feel like we just did this three months ago.
I wound up going over to watch the Super Bowl with some friends last Sunday. A last minute invitation, but it was a lot of fun. And I was thrilled with the outcome. I know there was some controversy around the ending, so I have a great deal of respect for the player involved saying he did indeed commit the hold. That takes a lot of guts. And, considering the refs missed a couple of blatant calls against the Eagles in the first half, I was never that upset at the call at the end of the game.
But this does mean that I didn't start on undecorating from Christmas during the Super Bowl last Sunday. But I have started! In fact, as I type this on Saturday late afternoon, I have all the ornaments off the trees. The last batch is sitting on one of my coffee tables to be boxed up. Then, I just need to get lights off and get the trees themselves done. I'm aiming to start working on that as soon as I finish up this post, so let's get to it.

Tuesday - Book Review: Life on the Mississippi by Rinker Buck
Book Haul:
Up first is Murder on the Home Front by Jessica Ellicott. This is the second in her Billie Harkness series set in England during World War II. I'm very curious to see where this series is going to go, so I'm looking forward to it. The book comes out the beginning of May, so this is an ARC.
Next up to Milford Elementary by J. A. Hoda. I'd been eyeing this book for a while, and the Kindle edition went on sale this week, so I snagged it. I'd just heard him the week before on The Bookish Hour, too.
Finally comes my audio book - The Christie Caper by Carolyn Hart. I debated about starting an audio book right now, but I decided to go for it even though I'm not planning to do a lot of driving in the next couple of weeks.
What I'm Currently Reading:
Reading wise, I'm actually between books. I finished up Till Death Do Us Port by Kate Lansing this morning before heading to the lake. It was so good! If you like the series, don't miss it. It officially comes out on 3/7, but I'll be reviewing it a little early.
After I get my Christmas decorations fully put away, I'll be starting on Record Store Reckoning by J. C. Kenney. This is the first in a series, and I'm looking forward to meeting this characters.

The super bowl was a lot of fun and such a great game. I always worked for the government so I always got President's day off and I liked that it was a 3 day weekend and not everybody got it off so things weren't as busy. Columbus day is another great fed holiday because my kids sometime would have to go to school and I'd get the day off!

ReplyDeleteI only watched the last couple minutes of the game, which is all you usually need.....that's the most exciting part unless it's a blow out. Looks like you've got a great haul of new books to read. Have a terrific week and hope you find time to put your feet up and enjoy a good book!

ReplyDeleteTrying to watch football is like handing my seven-year-old granddaughter a physics book. Still it's fun for me to pretend like I am talking about the big game just like Annie likes to fake read a textbook. I'm glad you liked it.

ReplyDeleteI completely *forgot!* to even mention the Super Bowl on my post! lol I had a long hard week --- I cut cable ages ago, so uniquely, I watched it in 4x equally dynamic highlighted recaps of the game by the NFL streaming via YT. I never thought I'd love to see it that way but it was wicked brilliant! I was just as excited anyone seeing it LIVE too and thankfully it wasn't spoilt eithet for the ending -- although IMO I felt it was the Eagles who should've won given what transpired. Eh.
I even found the commericals were on YT, too, so overall, I had a very condensed experience and loved it more than watching it live all those other years. lol I was curious if anyone else saw it that way as it was quite a clever approach to seeing it.
Ooh! I hadn't realised that about the guy who had the penalty? Hmm... considering that then, I guess the right team did win as I didn't think he did anything wrong from what I saw in the recap I watched. I don't take it overly seriously though - its fun and its a game to enjoy seeing but I'm not a diehard footballer either. I like being in the moment but whichever team wins I feel is good for them in the end. They all work so hard all year for it.
My Sunday Post this week continues the torch of being more personal life updates and shares than bookish delights but I did get settled into a delightful Cosy series which some might enjoy reading about too.

PS: In regards to tv, I am wicked excited for the new Magnum PI via Peacock as I was so heart-attached to the series via CBS!
The Federal holidays seem so unpredictably observed by businesses. Thanks for reminding me, though: NO mail delivery tomorrow! No mail pick up either.

ReplyDeleteUgh...quarter end...luckily for me, OUR quarter doesn't end until March 31. I just got done dealing with Q4 invoices so you scared me for a minute there.

Taking down and boxing up your ornaments/trees must take a really long time. No wonder it happens in February! You could leave one tree up and do various holidays throughout the year....

Good luck getting all the Christmas stuff packed up. That is my least favorite job. I love putting out decorations but hate putting them up. I'm super curious about The Christie Caper. I read some Carolyn Hart but it's been years. I hope you're having a wonderful week!
