June 5th's Sunday/Monday Post

Welcome to June!  It's time for another Sunday/Monday post, and, as always, I'll be linking up to:

It's Monday, What Are You Reading?

This has been a week.  The company I'm an accountant for has a slightly off fiscal year, which means that this isn't just month end for us, but quarter end.  Normally, we close to day 3, which would have been Friday.  We got an extra day because we have offices in the UK that were closed for the Queen's platinum jubilee.  I felt like that would mean we would have an easier close, at least this week.  That turned out not to be the case.  I'm not sure we would have made it if we were following our usual schedule.  But I think we are in a good place to wrap things up on Monday.  Of course, next week will also be crazy because our extra quarterly reports are due almost right away.  We are losing that extra day, and I'm going to wish we still had it.

Not only that, but I cancelled a cruise I was looking to take in July.  The friends I was going to go with both backed out on me.  I could have gone by myself, and I had thought about it for a while, but I decided that the airfare and possible flights home just didn't make it worth it.  I was okay with that - until today.  Now I'm regretting that.  I really hope another option I was looking at comes through, and it's not looking good.

On a positive note, I took my paddle board out again.  And I bought my passes for it at the local lake.  They were hosting dragon boat races today, so a small section closed off, but a very small portion.  It was fun being out there and watching them go.

And here's a new one.  The format on my blog was wonky for about 24 hours.  It started Wednesday night right before I went to bed.  I was hoping it would fix itself the next morning, but it still looked bad.  However, when I looked in other browsers, it looked fine, and it looked fine when I tried to preview a post.  I was so busy, I didn't have time to look into it more, but Thursday right before I went to bed, it fixed itself.  Hope it was just temporary.  Glad I didn't spend too much time trying to figure out what was going on.

Enough of the ramblings.  Let's get to it.

Book Haul:

Crooked Lane put some ebooks on sale this week.  Thanks to that, I grabbed Cold Brew Corpse by Tara Lush, Vanishing Edge by Claire Kells, and Live, Local, and Dead by Nikki Knight.

Meanwhile, I've got another audio book from my library - this time it's Island of Thieves by Glen Erik Hamilton.

What I'm Currently Reading:

This weekend, I've been working on Up to No Gouda by Linda Reilly.  I'm not too far into it yet, but so far, so good.  Well, other than the fact that it is making me crave grilled cheese sandwiches.

I'm also working on that audio book I just mentioned - Island of Thieves.

Have a great week!

  1. Hey there! I'm sorry your travel plans didn't work out - hopefully your Plan B will come through...
I believe Up To No Gouda is coming up on my reading list - glad to hear your preliminary thoughts on it. It seems like we have cozy mysteries in common.

  2. I read Up to No Gouda recently and it was very good, but those grilled cheese cravings are real!! I ate about 6 of them while reading it.

  3. This is my first time participating in Stacking the Shelves and it's been so interesting to see the variety of books people gravitate toward. As I looked at your extensive series list, you're clearly a cozy mystery reader! That's a great way to organize your reviews when you clearly read so many series all the way through. I seem to skip around thru them though this year I've committed to reading the Louise Penny series from the beginning and I'm on #12 (of 16), so making good progress. My list if you'd like to take a look: https://www.bookshelfjourneys.com/post/TBR-may-2022

  4. Sorry to hear work was a bit tough this week and you had to cancel your trip in July. That's a bummer! I do hope a new opportunity will arise soon.

I have Clouds in my Coffee, but haven't read it yet!

    Have a good week ahead!

  6. I'm sorry your travel plans fell through and my fingers are crossed that you manage to find some more.

Good luck with the quarter end. I've got month end to wrap up myself tomorrow, like you having lost a couple of days due to the Jubilee weekend. It's going to be a busy one - least we won't be bored haha

  8. Travel this summer is really scary — covid could come back, labor is short, rental cars are unfindable, airlines are faltering, airports are beyond crowded, and everyone needs a break. I hope you find an alternate to the abandoned plan. We managed a trip in April when things were not quite as bad, and are hoping our August plan will not fail.

  12. The price of travel is crazy. I have a book convention I booked over a year ago that is finally happening in July, and even though it is going to be expensive with gas to drive, I'm still going. So I understand the needing a vacation! Hope you have a good week!

  15. I couldn't get photos to upload to my blog so I finally tried another browser and that worked.

Disappointing about the cruise. I hope the other option works out for you.

My dad was an accountant so I know well the work connected with close outs.

  16. Well shoot. Sorry about the cruise and I hope an even better vacation opportunity presents itself!

Ugh...I have quarterly invoices to pay, but they don't come my way until July.

Very odd about the blog formatting!!!

  17. So sorry about the vacation not working out but hopefully you can reschedule soon and it'll be even better. We are planning our first cruise ever for October of next year and I'm so excited. We used to go to Disney World every year but I'm not sure Will could handle walking 50+ miles in a week so we decided to do a Disney cruise instead. Enjoy your week!

  21. I'm sorry about your cancelled trip. That's disappointing but I hope something else will come along. I loved Up to No Gouda, but I craved grilled cheese sandwiches the entire time I read it. Hope you have a great week and it's not too hectic.

  22. These cozies sound good.
I would choose the paddle boat every day against the cruise!

  29. I feel you on the cancelled cruise. I was supposed to go on a river cruise this summer, cancelled because I was told I would be at a work conference and now I am not doing that. So I am home. I hope something comes through for you!
