December 20th's Book Beginnings and Friday 56

It looks like it has been a couple of weeks since I did Book Beginnings and Friday 56, so maybe I should fix that.

I couldn't decide which book to feature this week, so I am going to feature both of them - one for the beginning and one for the 56.

Both of the books I will be featuring come out on 12/31, and I will be reviewing both on the blog next week.

Let's start with the beginning, which I'll take from Sealed Off by Barbara Ross.

Here's how the book begins:
"He has to go."  My brother-in-law, Sonny, brought his face, which was flushed bright red behind his freckles, down to mine.  He was mad.  I knew why he was mad.  And he was probably right.  Which made me mad.

Now, for the Friday 56, let's skip on over to the second book, Sell Low, Sweet Harriet by Sherry Harris.

From page 56, we get this (slightly edited) scene.

My cell phone range when I walked into my apartment just before nine.  Officer Pellner.
"Are you okay?" he asked.
I flipped on the lights in my hall.  "Yes.  Why wouldn't I be?  I just got home."
"No one followed you?" he asked
"What's going on?  You're scaring me."

As I said, both will be out in a week and a half, but I'll be reviewing Sealed Off on Monday and Sell Low, Sweet Harriet on Thursday.  I hope you'll come back for my reviews, but here's a spoiler - I loved them both.

Have a good weekend.

  1. These both sound like intriguing cozies. I'm really wondering who has to go from the first book. This week I am spotlighting a book from deep in my TBR mountain - Redshirts by John Scalzi. Happy reading!

  3. These are both series I really want to read. I've read one of the books in the Barbara Ross series and really liked it so now I just need to catch up.
