Beating the Drum for This Year's World Within

I almost didn't start Hallmark's A World Within series back in 2014.  In fact, I didn't get that first ornament until I saw what the second one was going to be.  But I'm glad I did since each ornament in the series has gotten better, and this year's is no exception.

This year's theme is toy soldier.  The outer portion of the ornament is a drum.  It's round and red, which is really no surprise.  What is fun is the green trim, which gives it an extra Christmassy feel.  It's also on its side, and the top of the drum has been removed so we can see the scene inside.  Inside we see a soldier dressed in red standing next to a green Christmas tree.  He's standing guard over a couple of presents that have been placed near the tree.  I say near since one of them is rather large and peeking out from behind the tree.

Many people are saying this is the best in the series to date, and it's hard to argue with that.  The soldier inside the drum is a great match of object and inner scene, and the scene inside is so cute.  Yes, I've said that about all of them, but it still holds true.

You must keep in mind that this is a miniature series.  As a result, the entire ornament is just about an inch tall.  That also means the scene isn't quite as detailed as it would normally be.  Oh, don't worry, it's detailed enough that you can tell what it is, but I can imagine it would look awesome as a full sized ornament.

Since the drum is round, the only reason the ornament stands up is the gold trim zig zagging on the side of the drum.  As a result, it doesn’t quite stand up straight.  But that’s okay because I would remind you again of the size.  It is quite possible that it would get lost anyway, depending on where you set it out.

Since the basic ornament is round, it isn't surprising at all that the ornament hangs straight.

Looking for the series marker?  You'll find it on the back of the drum.  It's small since this is a mini ornament, but it is there.

Thanks to a promotion that Hallmark ran, their mini ornaments have been flying off the shelves, and this one is no exception.  If you have yet to get this year's A World Within, I highly recommend you do so soon.  You'll be glad you have it in your collection.
