This week's book is The Big Chili by Julia Buckley.
Here's how the book begins:
My chocolate Labrador watched me as I parked my previously loved Volvo wagon and took my covered pan out of the backseat; the autumn wind buffeted my face and made a mess of my hair. And jumping a head to page 56, we find:
Pet sighed. "This is what upsets me, Lilah,"
"What?"
"I- Well, I'm afriad people will say I had a motive."
If all goes according to play, I should be finishing this book up today. I'm enjoying it so far; here's hoping that continues."
It's been a while since I visited your blog. Is that a new cover photo with the colorful ornaments and books? I like it. Why is the Volvo previously loved? That sentence doesn't make sense to me.

Yes, that is a new cover photo. Thanks for noticing.
DeleteI was guessing that previously loved just meant old and used, although I see someone else has another definition.
I like the quotes. I haven't seen this one before, but it sound like it's a good one. Thanks for sharing. :-)
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome. This is the first in a new series that just came out a few months ago.
DeleteIf you've ever had a Volvo, you'll understand - there comes a time when you don't love it anymore. At that point, it's previously loved. Here's my Friday Book Hour
ReplyDeleteThanks for the explanation. Never having owned a Volvo, I didn't get it completely either.
DeleteI've never owned a Volvo but I have friends who have and they feel the same way....lol...I like the cover and this sounds like it could be a fun mystery - does it have chili recipes? I'm looking for a new one...lol...Here's my Friday meme
ReplyDeleteYes, the book does have a chili recipe. Just the one, but it would certainly make for an interesting twist on chili. There are some other delicious sounding recipes in the back as well.
Deletethe quote keeps me in suspense. It's really interesting to know the reason of this quote. :)
ReplyDeleteAnd for that, you'd have to read more. ;)
DeleteSounds good. This week I am spotlighting The Skeleton Garden by Marty Wingate - a cozy mystery. Happy reading!
