April 6th's Book Beginnings and Friday 56

We've made it to another Friday, which means that it is time for Book Beginnings and Friday 56.

This week, I'm featuring Turning the Tide, the third Quaker Midwife Mystery by Edith Maxwell.

This is a historical mystery set during the Presidential election of 1888.  It officially comes out on Sunday, but I was able to snag an eARC, and I enjoyed it.  My review will be up on Tuesday.

Here's now the book begins:

Rowena Felch stood tall and graceful on the podium in the Free Will Baptist Church hall.  "In this election season of 1888, we must work with ever more diligence to gain women the vote!"

Just one quick tease from 56% into the book:

"I've lost one daughter.  I can't lose thee, too."

I do hope you'll come back on Tuesday to read my review of this book.  In the meantime, have a great weekend.

  2. I like historical mysteries but haven't heard of this series before. I'll be adding it to my wishlist. This week I am featuring Lord of the Pies by Nell Hampton - a nice cozy mystery. Happy reading!
