TV Show Review: Full House - Season 6

Season six of Full House brings more changes for the Tanner clan. The family is headed up by father Danny (Bob Saget), a morning TV talk show host. His brother-in-law Jesse (John Stamos) married Danny's co-host Becky (Lori Loughlin), and the two have twins of their own. Also living with them is Danny's best friend Joey (Dave Coulier). All the adults help take care of Danny's three daughters, high school sophomore D.J. (Candace Cameron), fifth grader Stephanie (Jodie Sweetin), and first grader Michelle (Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen). Also a series regular is D.J.'s best friend Kimmy (Andrea Barber).

The season opens with D.J. returning from a summer in Spain with a surprise, boyfriend Steve (Scott Weinger, who is the final member of the regular cast). This is a change that Danny isn't ready to deal with. Michelle has a change of her own to face when her best friend moves from California to Texas. Stephanie wants different rules then her sister had, and rebels by getting her ears pierced - by Kimmy. And Jesse and Joey deal with their own changes when they team up again to become hosts of an afternoon radio show.

In another continuity error (which does happen in long running series), Jesse suddenly goes from being a high school graduate in season four to a high school drop out who goes to night school to get his diploma. Even though this doesn't fit with what they did before, it provides several fun episodes.

Both D.J. and Kimmy turn 16 this season. While D.J. forgets her best friend's big day, Joey buys D.J. a very expensive present that turns out to be a very hot item.

Another running storyline this season is Danny's long distance relationship with Vicky (recurring actress Gail Edwards). We get to watch the struggles these two endure. All this comes to a climax when the gang heads to Disney World for the season finale.

With the girls growing up, the series is continuing to find new topics to explore. Nothing here is a repeat of previous episodes, which is pretty good for a show in its sixth year. Of course, the standard episode remains the same with lots of trouble and laughs before a heart to heart conversation that sorts everything out. The thing is, it continues to be just as fun, funny, and heart warming as always. While many of the episodes are predictable, there's lots of fun getting to the end. Missing from this season are most of the catch phrases we're used to hearing. As much as I enjoyed them, it's a change I don't mind that much.

With Mary-Kate and Ashley growing up, Jesse and Becky's twins provide the cuteness factor. In fact, they are featured in most of the opening tags, a job that used to be reserved for Michelle. Granted, she is usually still in most of them, but it is a sign that things are changing on the show.

The acting continues to be good. Everyone does a fine job of bringing their character to life every week. Even weak links Mary-Kate and Ashley are better then last season.

As with the last couple season sets, there are no bonus features. We do get all 24 episodes on four discs. They look and sound good enough for a sitcom. There's nothing here that will blow you away, but there really is no need for it, either.

Season six of Full House won't appeal to everyone. But the young and young at heart will continue to enjoy the adventures of the Tanner clan.
