June 11th's Sunday/Monday Post

Welcome to Sunday!  It's time for another Sunday/Monday post.  I'll be linking up to:

It's Monday, What Are You Reading?

It's been another busy week at work.  Since it was quarter end, we had extra reporting to do.  I thought that was all behind me until I took a call at 5:15 Friday night.  Never take a call after you're supposed to be off work for the weekend.  We'll see how that shakes out on Monday, but it might make for a long week.

Last Sunday, I went to a play at the theater company here in town - A Comedy of Tenors.  It's a sequel, of sorts, to Lend Me a Tenor.  I enjoyed it overall.

Weather has continued cool and cloudy, although it is supposed to be warmer again this coming week.  Finally!

My shoulder is doing a lot better.  I'm holding off on paddle boarding until it is completely better, but it is hard to be patient like I know I should be.

Saturday is game day, which is always fun.

Blog Spam Comment of the Week:

Yes, spam comments come in waves, but I do find it funny that, since I started talking about these in my weekly posts, I've seen an influx of them.  Coincidence?  Probably.  But I've got fodder for a few more weeks this way.

Yes, I am removing any live links in this week's comment, but unlike many spam comments, you can definitely see how this one is an ad.  There's a reason I included this one, which will be clear after the comment.

I appreciate it. Get the greatest ticket rates and deals on domestic and international flights when you book a flight online at....

As I said, this one actually makes a little sense.  You see, they put it on my review of Airplane!  At least this time it's related and not some random comment, right?  I have to give them credit for that even if I treat it as the spam it is.

This Past Week on the Blog:

Yes, I did make a change for Friday.  I've got a lot of movie and TV shows to review these days.

This Coming Week on the Blog:

Sunday - Sunday/Monday Post
Monday - Book Review: Muddled Matrimonial Murder by Kim Davis
Tuesday - Movie Review: Something New
Wednesday - Book Review: A Stolen Child by Sarah Steward Taylor
Thursday - Ornament Review: Cookie Cutter Christmas #11
Friday - Racing the Light by Robert Crais
Saturday - Weekly TV Thoughts

Book Haul:

Yep, it was a three book week.

Up first is my pre-order of Happily Ever After, the final book in James Riley's Once Upon Another Time trilogy.  I'm dying to get to it to find out what happens to the characters.  Not quite sure when that will be since I keep finding life getting in the way of reading time.  Yes, this is middle grade fantasy.  Every so often, it is nice to take a break from mysteries.

Of course, the other two books are mysteries.

The first is Lending a Paw by Laurie Cass.  I know a lot of people are fans of this series, the Bookmobile Cat Mysteries, but I haven't tried them yet.  The first was on sale for Kindle (and looks like it still is), so I figured I'd snag it while I could.

Finally, I got Kinsey and Me by Sue Grafton.  I grabbed the audio version from the library on this one.  Yes, I still have one more mystery to go in the series, but I figured I'd listen to these essays and short stories first.

What I'm Currently Reading:

As I said a minute ago, real life has been interfering with my reading time.  I had hoped to be further into Fatal Fudge Swirl by Meri Allen, but that hasn't happened.  I'm enjoying the book, so that's definitely not the issue.  I'm still hoping to finish it up this weekend, but we'll see if that happens or not.

Up next will be Hidden Beneath by Barbara Ross.  I love this series, so I can't wait to find out what happens to the characters in the next Maine Clambake Mystery.

Have a great week!

  1. The spam comments kill me, but that one was clever. LOL

  2. I still appreciate your spam-comment comments! I often get comments that have some peculiar relation to the topic of an old blog post, but now I get it: they have a very strong similarity to the many AI Chatbot critiques that I've been seeing. There are WORDS that seem similar but no real human would find a serious connection. "AIRPLANE"! means you must want a travel agent.

  3. OH! I hope your upcoming work week is a good one! That’s wise of you to hold off paddle boarding until your shoulder is completely better! Yes, it’s hard to give our bodies time to heal. 😊Looks like you have some cozy mysteries coming up. I’ve been curious about Lending a Paw and just purchased it on sale! Thank you for the heads up. Happy Reading!

  4. Oof so glad to no longer be in a job where I needed to worry about the end of quarters! And yes, no calls or answering emails after 6pm, it is hardly ever really that serious or urgent xD I do sometimes have to chuckle at spam comments as well, sometimes they're so weirdly apt. I hope your shoulder continues to get better and that you enjoy your books! Have a lovely week :)

  5. One of the difficult things about teaching was that you were never off work. I spent every Sunday making plans for the coming week, and I always had things to do---making learning centers, assessing children's progress, tidying the room, and more---after the children themselves left the building. And everything in the classroom was purchased by me! Those are the things I don't miss.

I wonder what you'd say that your favorite reads have been. You seem to like mysteries best, I'd say, but I wonder if you have a couple of series that have been the best.

  6. Haven't seen a Sue Grafton book around for a while. I used to wonder what the author would do when she finished the alphabet for titles. But then I think the author passed away. Untimely! Have a good week.

  7. Spam comment made me smile! :) Busy at work can make the week go by quickly, but so busy that you're working after hours is NOT fun. Hope it quiets down this week. Sometimes life does get in the way of reading as much as we'd like - but the best thing is that the books will still be there when there's time/interest. Thanks for the visit.

  8. Looks like the spam bot went crawling for mentions of air travel LOL! As AI gets better (or at least more ubiquitous), I suspect it will get harder to spot the spam at first glance.

Glad to hear your shoulder is improving. And I sympathize on the workload; I'll be working lots of extra hours this week, too.

  9. I haven't had any actual spam comments for a long time. I am just getting my own comments and legit blog comments still suddenly sent to my spam folder, even if they were posted years ago. So random.

  10. I listened to Lending a Paw earlier this year. I have the next one on my TBR, but haven't gotten to it yet. I'll be curious what you think about Lending a Paw. I need to add the Spider-verse movies to my to-be-watched list. I was not even aware of them until the most recent one came out in theaters and I hadn't planned on watching it even though I really liked the live-action Spidey movies. I've heard nothing but good things about the Spider-verse ones. Have a great week. :)

  11. Interesting info on the spam comment coming from your Airplane! post. I hope you have more time to read this week--I have had trouble finding time to read lately too-

  12. Never take a call after hours. So true :)

Love that comment. It's weird how they link to certain posts

  13. Nice book haul! I haven't read Sue Grafton in years!! Glad to hear your shoulder continues to improve. I hope you have a great week.

  14. I'm glad your shoulder is getting better. The spam comments just make me laugh. They really can be clever. Love the cozies on your list. I read a couple of the Laurie Cass series and enjoyed them. I have to get back to it. Hope you have a great week!

  15. I liked Fatal Fudge Swirl (finished it last night). I have read some of Sue Grafton's series by not all. I checked my Spam folder and didn't really find anything interesting. Only one offered me pet meds apparently triggered by the name of my blog which is actually from a Groucho Marx quote. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

  16. I didn't know about Kinsey and Me, I'll have to see if my local library has a copy.

  17. When I do read middle grade I am always happy with how good they are and middle grade fantasy that has you wanting to get stuck in is great. Begone real life!!

  18. Blog spam. Blech! I love your funny example, however.

  19. I've been extra-busy at work lately, too, but didn't have to work over the weekend, and with the Juneteenth holiday, I have a long weekend coming up. (I'm also taking a half-day on Friday!) I love ice cream, so I'm going to have to look into getting that Fatal Fudge Swirl book!

  20. I learned the hard way not to answer the phone after 5pm. :-).
I love the look of Happily Ever After and Lending Paws.
Yes, you blog spam comment today at least was linked to a fitting post. I got one today expressing "gratitude to the author of this blog for their dedication to sharing knowledge" and more flattery. From promocodehq .
I envy your cooler weather but hope it warms up so you can enjoy your weekend activities.
Have a good week and Happy Reading.

  21. Patience is tough. Hope you can hold out.

I'll have to check out your Murder, She Wrote review. One of my favorite series.

Great books this week. Hope you enjoy them. Thanks for sharing and for visiting my blog today.

  22. Sometimes spam comments, like this one, make me smile! Even though it still annoys me having to deal with them.
That ice cream mystery sounds good to me. Have a great week and happy reading!

  23. Seeing the Sue Grafton book reminds me that I want to reread some of her books! I miss them.

  24. I love the spam comment! Definitely a bot using key words. The Laurie Cass series is on my TBR. I'm really looking forward to reading it. Have a great week!

  25. Spam comments are always fun. If you need a sexy escort in any Asian country, I can probably hook you up with a spammer. My blog gets so many comments about Asian escorts!

  26. Wonder if that spam comment was just from a generic Google Search and your blog turned up with a top result for airplanes? Interesting indeed.

Thanks for stopping by. In order to combat spam, I moderate most comments. I'll get to your comment as soon as I can.
