Stars: 4 out of 5
Pros: Scene paint on the ornament is great
Cons: The evergreen props don’t quite work
The Bottom Line:
Celebrating trees
But the props outweigh the scene
Wish it worked better
The First Disappointing Snowtop Lodge Ornament
I do love the creativity of the Snowtop Lodge series. As I’ve said, the scenes and props used to create
these different pieces on snowmen are so much fun. However, occasionally things don’t work out
like they are supposed to. One of those
times is Colleen C. Evergreen, the third piece in the series.
The ornament is an attempt to bring in a slightly different
style to the series. Colleen is all
about evergreen trees, as you’d expect from her name. She’s a pretty standard snowwoman in that
she’s got two pieces of coal for eyes, a carrot for a nose, and more coal for
her smile. She’s wearing a red scarf
with silver stars, and she has three buttons down the front made from evergreen
tree branches. The scene painted on her
bottom snowball shows a family draggin their Christmas tree home, and it’s a
very lovely scene.
However, it’s her accessories that don’t work for me. In her right hand, she’s holding an evergreen
branch. On her head in place of a hat is
a wreath of evergreen. And there are two
cardinals, one perched on the branch and one on her head. The execution of the idea just doesn’t really
work like it is supposed to work. The
branches look messy and the wreath looks strange to me. Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t find it
nearly as appealing as I think it was supposed to look, although it does look a
little better in person than in the pictures I’ve seen of her.
Like the rest of the series, Colleen will stand on her
own. She is a snowwoman, after all. You’ll also find the 3 in the Christmas tree
series marker on the bottom of the ornament.
This series is made from porcelain, so it is more fragile
than the typical Hallmark ornament.
You’ll want to make sure you place Colleen on a sturdy branch when go to
hang her. She is almost balanced, so
you’ll find that she tips forward slightly, but it’s not too bad.
It’s a shame the evergreen touches don’t work as intended
because a snowperson celebrating evergreen trees sounds like a good idea. Unfortunately, the props outweigh the painted
scene, and Colleen C. Evergreen just doesn’t quite work out.
