This week's book is The Blood of Olympus by Rick Riordan.
I know, I know, I'm just now reading it. I would have liked to have gotten to it when it came out in October, but I just couldn't find the time. So many books and all that.
I've loved some of Rick's openings. While this one did make me curious, I didn't think it was his best.
Jason hated being old.
Yes, I know, I'm getting to be a bit of a first line snob. That's good if you know the characters and series, but it's not the best overall.
I'm not too far past page 56, but here's a great quote from that page.
Their first shadow-travel experience together, two days ago, had been a total fiasco, possibly the most humiliating episode in Reyna's long career. Perhaps someday, if they survived, they would look back on it and laugh, but not now. The three of them had agreed never to speak of it. What happened in Albania would stay in Albania.
And no, I don't know if Albania comes up again in the story, but I had to laugh at that paragraph.
Have a great weekend, everyone.
Rioridan is on my list of authors I haven't read that I plan on trying this year. I'm definitely intrigued by the 56! Sounds like it was quite catastrophic!
ReplyDeleteI hope you enjoy him when you get to his books. I've enjoyed the ones I've read.
DeleteNow I'm wondering what happened in Albania.
ReplyDeleteMe, too, but it hasn't been mentioned again, and I've reached page 300.
DeleteFor me it as a curious intro and I liked your 56 teaser. I have only read one of Rick's books The Lightening Thief, I so need to read more..lol.

Friday 56
You've got some good books, and a couple of okay ones, ahead of you.
DeleteAlthough I've never had much interest in gods and goddesses, I'm tempted to read this book because I've heard good things about the author. I hope you enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteMy Friday post features FETCHING LOVE.
I'm not necessarily interested in gods and goddesses, but I've enjoyed both series very much.
DeleteThere is definitely a lot going on in the cover. Enjoy!

There's a lot going on in the book, too.
DeleteConfession, I haven't read anything by Rick Riordan, but I eventually want to get to get to one of his books.
ReplyDeleteSo many books, right? There are plenty of authors I hope to get to some day.
DeleteI love Riordan! Somehow though I haven't read any of the Heroes of Olympus books yet...I'll have to get right on it!
ReplyDeleteHere's mine.
If you read Percy, you need to read the next chapter. They expand things in some fun ways, and are mostly good.
DeleteI still haven't read his books either.. lol... want to though.
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend!
You'll find the time eventually.
DeleteI've yet to read any of his books. I'm not sure this is for me.I guess I need another nudge to try it. LOL
ReplyDeleteHere's my 56 - http://fuonlyknew.com/2015/01/09/the-friday-56-47-dinosaur-lake-iii-infestation/
They are fun fantasy for middle graders. Not for everyone, but I've enjoyed them.
DeleteI know this author, but haven't read anything by him.
ReplyDeleteENJOY!!
Hope you are having a good day.
