Stars: 5 out of 5
Pros: Fun idea becomes fun ornament
Cons: One two sides light up
The Bottom Line:
Motorhome owner
Fully decks out for Christmas
For delightful piece
Deck the Camper
I have absolutely loved the two ornaments Hallmark has put
out of a crazily decorated house where the lights are synced to music. I grew up camping, and have fond memories of
that. So you’d expect me to love Crazy Christmas Campers. And you’d be right.
This ornament is of a motorhome, and the owners are
definitely in the Christmas spirit. They
have lights and lit up bells on the side of their motor home. There’s an inflatable snowman on the
roof. They’ve got more lights and a wreath
on the front. And those people you see silhouetted
in the window? That’s Santa and a
reindeer, of course.
Now, I don’t actually think that this is supposed to be
Santa’s motorhome. Instead, I’m thinking
that Santa and the reindeer are cutouts that are illumined by the inside of the
motorhome.
The latest I remember us ever camping was Thanksgiving, so I
don’t remember seeing any motorhomes actually decked out like this. However, I love the concept, and in this age,
I don’t see why a full time RVer couldn’t deck out their vehicle like
this. Their neighbors might not
appreciate it. In fact, I can pretty
much guarantee they wouldn’t. Most of
the time, you are right next to your neighbor in one of these parks, so the
blinking and flashing lights would be very annoying.
And that’s before we get to the magic aspect of this
ornament. See, this is one of Hallmark’s
Magic Cord ornaments. When it is
connected to the Magic Cord (sold separately), the lights on the outside, the
bells, and the windows light up. And
when you press the button, the ornament plays a fun, upbeat version of “Deck
the Halls.” All the lights are timed to
flash in synch with the song, with is a lot of fun, and the other ornaments
connected to the Magic Cord also flash along.
The show lasts just under half a minute, and it is a delight.
Since this is a motorhome, the ornament rests easily on its
wheels, and you can set it out to display anywhere you have a flat
surface. Of course, there is a loop for
hanging the ornament in the roof of the RV, and you’ll find that it hangs
straight.
My only complaint with the ornament is that, while the front
and one side are decked out, the back and the other side are plain. It’s obvious how we are supposed to display
the ornament. Then again, with the
houses I mentioned earlier, the backs were definitely plain, so this isn’t a
new thing at all.
These Magic Cord ornaments are on the expensive side, but
when they hit it out of the park, they are absolutely perfect. Crazy Christmas Camper is definitely one of
those times.
