January 4th's Book Beginnings and Friday 56

Welcome to the first Book Beginnings and Friday 56 of 2019.

And, fittingly, I am featuring a first in a new series to start things off in 2019.  This week's teasers will be from A Literal Mess by J. C. Kenney.

This is a fun debut.  I just finished it up, and I need to get my review written, but I really enjoyed it.

Anyway, here's how the book begins.
It's a universal truth that a phone call at 2:00 A.M. brings only one kind of news - bad with a capital B.

And, jumping ahead to 56% into the book, we find:

As the hands tightened around my throat, crushing my windpipe, spots formed in front of my eyes.

I'm part of a blog tour for the book, and my review will be up on Thursday next week.  I hope you'll come back and see my full thoughts.

Until then, have a great weekend.
