September 4ths Sunday/Monday Post

Hello, and welcome to Sunday.  Time for a long weekend Sunday/Monday post, where I will be linking up to:

It's Monday, What Are You Reading?

I hope you have plans for the long weekend.  I started to make some (nothing fancy), but wound up having to cancel them again.  You guessed it, I'm working again this weekend.  No, I'm not working a full day, but I am going to have to log in for a few hours each day.  But that's it.  I have other things I need to be working on that are being neglected.  Not to mention the condo needs to be cleaned.

I'm glad I worked last weekend.  I'm not sure how I would have gotten everything done if I hadn't worked the extra.  As it was, I worked overtime during the week, too.

But yes, I'm getting reading and blog work done, too.  Is it any wonder I'm tired?

In other news, I didn't even get to go paddle boarding this morning.  There's a fire near where I normally paddle.  Not only would I not want to be so close to the smoke and ash, but the roads are partially closed.

And we are experiencing a heatwave.  It's been over 100 most of the week, and it's supposed to continue most of this coming week.  I actually don't mind the heat, would rather be hot than cold.  But I am thankful for my AC during the heat waves.

This Past Week on the Blog:

Book Haul:

I was good this week.  I only have two new books.  How is that good, you ask?  I read two books a week, so I didn't buy more books than I read for a change.  That's good in my book.

The first book is No Parm No Foul by Linda Reilly.  This is the second in her Grilled Cheese Mysteries series.  I really enjoyed the first, so I'm looking forward to this one.  I think I'm going to hold it until October, however, since it is set at Halloween.  Might as well enjoy it in season, right?

I also got The Plot and the Pendulum by Jenn McKinlay this week.  It's the thirteenth book in her Library Lover's Mysteries.  Obviously, it involves the works of Edgar Allan Poe and is also set around Halloween.  Yes, I will be reading it in October, but that's because the book doesn't come out until October 11th.  Yes, I snagged a copy of this one via NetGalley.

What I'm Currently Reading:

As I type this Saturday afternoon, I'm actually working on one of last week's new books.  My plan is to finish up Buttercream Betrayal by the end of the day today.  This is another fun entry in Kim Davis's Cupcake Caterer series, and I'm anxious to find out who did it.  I'll be reviewing it as part of a blog tour on the fifteenth.

Sunday and Monday, around work, I plan to make progress in Under Lock and Skeleton Key by Gigi Pandian.  I've been hearing great things about this series debut, and I've enjoyed other books by Gigi that I've read, so I'm looking forward to it.

That's it for me.  Hope you have a great weekend and week.

  2. Hope you have a nice LAbor Day in spite of having to work. Hopefully it doesn't take up too much of your weekend. And wow those temps. I hope you get a cool off soon.

The new McKinlay looks good. I want to get aegean too- hopefully you liked it :)

  3. Fire spreads so quickly in these drought conditions. I hope the fire near you is under control now. I keep hearing about new ones popping up. I would rather the heat than freezing cold too, although air conditioning is really nice right now. :-)

I am sorry you will have to work this weekend. I put in quite a bit of overtime the past couple weeks too. I do have this weekend off, at least and am looking forward to the three day weekend with my family.

I like Jenn McKinlay's books. The Plot and the Pendulum sounds like it will be a fun one.

I hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend and have a great week.

  5. Gosh, I'm sorry you had to work again, but it sounds like you feel like you are getting a lot done. And I'm sure you are disappointed that you didn't get to paddle board. That heat must be stifling. At this time of year, I'm always happy to have an occasional week where the temperatures drop so the highs are in the low 80s.

You certainly should be proud of only adding two books to your stack. I also only added two, but I only read one so...

  6. I used to love the Library Lover's mysteries. Haven't read Jen in a while. This looks good.

  7. It sounds like you’ve been incredibly busy yet you’ve been able to post on your blog daily too! I see lots of cozy mysteries in your haul! I hope you have a quieter more relaxing week ahead.

  8. I picked up the first Jenn McKinley book at my library this week! (although I forgot to put it in my post) Sorry you have to work, the heat wave and the fire sounds awful. I hope you have a great week!

  9. I'm sorry to hear about the fire and heat, Mark. Drought can be so dangerous in many ways. I enjoyed No Parm, No Foul so I hope you do as well. I will watch for your review of Gigi Pandian book, as I enjoyed the previous one. Have a good week!

  10. I hope the fire is brought under control quickly.
It’s just an ordinary weekend here, but today is Fathers Day.

  12. Oh, heat waves are horrible! So grateful for AC during those times, and keep my fingers crossed that the power won't go out.

    Enjoy your week!

  13. I won No Parm No Foul in a giveaway and I was able to read it before the release date. Otherwise, I would have waited until Halloween month to read it. It's one of my favorite cozies. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. :)

  14. I hope the ash isn't too bad where you are. We've been experiencing less of the heat wave here in Santa Barbara, but it's still hot for us (mid to to high 80s). I agree, AC is key!

  15. All those books look great. Sounds like you are kept very busy with work! I hope you get to go out paddling again soon and that the heatwave will end.

Hope you have a good week next week.

  16. Ugh, that heat! I am glad we are down to upper 80s, but I am ready for fall weather! Love the cover of Buttercream Betrayal! Cute dogs. Of course its title makes me want some cake! Hope you get some time off of work to relax this weekend!

  17. I hope you enjoy this one by Pandian. I enjoyed some others, but was disappointed by this one.

  18. Mark - thanks for stopping by my blog - and how smart are you to only pick up as many books as you anticipate reading?! That certainly wasn't me. LOL.

  19. Some promising cozies. Ouch to all that work, that's tough. I do hope it lets up soon. Don't like the sound of the fires and smoke, hope they get them under control and you get surfing soon.

  20. Sorry you had to cancel your plans. I worked this weekend too, so I sympathize with you.

All your books sounds like such fun. Hope you enjoy them.

  21. Sorry to hear your plans had to be cancelled for work!
Adding only as many books as you've read seems extremely reasonable to me. I'm planning on slowing down with the books purchases this fall so I can catch up with my TBR.
Have a great week and happy reading!

  22. I'm sorry you have to work this holiday weekend. I hope you find time to relax. Those cozies look so good. I loved the first Grilled Cheese mystery too and have to find time to read the second one. Have a great week!

  23. I live in the upper midwest so we have harsh winters. That said, I value my AC in the humid summers. But we'd rather run our furnace at the low to mid 60s in the winter (and wear a sweater) than go without AC in the summer. I hope you can get back to the outdoor activities soon. Have a good week and enjoy your reading!

  24. Sorry that your work is keeping you so busy. You did get some nice looking books though. I can't remember the last time I read as many books in a week as I received. No wonder my TBR mountain is so enormous. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

  25. I can relate to working on the weekend and holiday. Its a mixed blessing.
I like both of your current reading choices. And No Parm, No Foul made me smile as I was just looking at some Parmesan recipes. I liked the first book too. Have a good week and Happy Reading!

  26. How did people live without AC? I can understand surviving without heat more than AC but then I live in a pretty warm climate. Yay for new books! I'm so excited about the new Jenn McKinlay. I hope you have a wonderful week and get a break soon!

  27. I had to work on the holiday weekend too. I'm hoping that fall gets here quickly! It's currently 86 degrees inside my house because I don't have AC, and I hate everything right now.

  28. Not buying more books than you read sounds good to me!
