This week's book is a middle grade novel - Magic Marks the Spot, the first in the Very Nearly Honorable League of Pirates series by Caroline Carlson.
Here's the first sentence of chapter one:
Ever since the letter had arrived from Miss Pimm's, Hilary had spent more and more time talking to the gargoyle.Moving on to page 56, we find:
"If I could grant wishes, I'd have a heaping plate of spiders in front of me right now. And," he added, "I'd be wearing a pirate hat.
Want to know more? Come back Sunday when I post my review of the book.
Talking to a gargoyle? Sounds like fun!

Yep, definitely a fun book.
DeleteAlthough I don't get the plate of spiders at all, I can completely get behind the pirate hat! There should be more of those! Thanks for sharing and I hope you have a good weekend!

The plate of spiders actually makes sense in context. I just left the context out on purpose because it was more fun for me that way.
DeleteI'm curious about the plate of spiders. Why would anyone want that?? But the beginning made me want to read more. This sounds like a book my granddaughter will enjoy when she gets a little older.
ReplyDeleteHere's my Friday56/Book Beginning post.
You'll just have to read the book to find out who wants the spiders and why.
DeleteThat page 56 quote is great! Really gross, but cool!

Again, that quote is pretty funny in context.
