June 10th's Friday Post

Welcome to Friday!  It's always so nice to make it here, right?  I'm doing a Friday post, which means I will be linking up to:

Book Beginnings
First Line Friday
Friday 56
Book Blogger Hop

The teaser I pull for the first three are going to come from The Tuesday Night Survivors' Club by Lynn Cahoon.

This is the first in a new series from a prolific cozy mystery author.  I must admit, this was the first book of Lynn's that I've read, and I enjoyed it.  For Book Beginnings and First Line Friday, here's how the book starts:

Rarity Cole was living and loving her second shot at life.  If she'd been a cat, she would have eight left.

A little context helps with that opening - the book features a group of cancer survivors.  It's an interesting hook for a cozy series, and I enjoyed that aspect of the book.

Meanwhile, for Friday 56, let's take a peak at 56% into the book (okay, fine, the tail end of 55% into the book) where we find this:

"I'm in Sam's crystal shop, and I think someone broke in and just left.  I'm afraid to go out through the back door.  I don't know what I'll find there."

The book's official release date is next Tuesday, but my review will be up on Monday.  I hope you'll come back then to see what I thought of it.

Let's wrap things up with a double dose of Book Blogger Hop.

I was actually disappointed my week ran away from me and I didn't have time to put together a post with the answer to last week's question, so I thought I'd do both this week.  So, last week's question:

What is your method for writing reviews - do you write immediately after reading, wait a few days, or write as you are reading?

I wish I were organized enough to write as I am reading, especially since I often come up with a great teaser that I've forgotten by the time I get around to actually writing the review.  I'll make mental notes as I am reading, but nothing on paper.  I try to write the review the day after I finish while things are still fresh in my mind.  Then, I sit down and write, coming back to edit a day or more later to hopefully catch the worst typos.  Then it's off to schedule the review, which leads to this week's question:

Have you ever forgotten to post a review?

I'm about to jinx myself I'm sure, but so far, I haven't.  I use that list near the top on the left side of my blog to remind myself about books I've agreed to review and when.  I try to finish actually reading the book at least a week before I am planning to review it to allow me time to write the review, edit, and schedule it.  It's rare I am not scheduled ahead of time (the fact that I'm writing this extremely late Thursday night is ironic), so that it's just a matter of the post going live.  But at some point, I am sure I will forget to post something, despite my best efforts.

Have a good Friday and a great weekend, everyone!

  3. I love a good cozy mystery series, and this one does sound good.

As for forgotten reviews, I can't recall any I've overlooked, as I keep track on notes and online...but when I'm in the middle of a move, or when things are hectic around me, it is a challenge to keep track.

I used to take notes while reading, which helps with reviews. But lately, I haven't done that much.

  11. I always write my review the same or the next day after I finish the book so I don't forget anything. I always schedule my reviews ahead of time too.

  12. I use my Google Calendar to remind myself when to start and post books that I have for review. For the ones I want to read, I just put a stack of the month's books on my coffee table and work my way through them. It seems to work for me.
