June 26th's Sunday/Monday Post

Happy Sunday!  Shall we start the week with another Sunday/Monday Post?  As usual, I will be linking up to:

Mailbox Monday
It's Monday, What Are You Reading?

It was another typical week for me work wise.  I did take Friday off again.  I was ALMOST as productive as I wanted to be with my day off.  Still need to edit my reviews for this week.  This coming week, I'm going to have to work all five days!  I'm not use to this torture.  :)

I played ultimate Frisbee a couple of times this week - Tuesday here in town and then Friday night about half an hour away.  This is the first time I've played in a couple of months, and it was nice to be out there throwing the disc again.

Other than that, I went out paddle boarding Saturday morning.  It's hot here in So Cal this weekend, so I stopped part way through and took a swim break.  Just beached my board and swam in the swim lagoon portion of the lake.  I was pretty much dry by the time I got back to the dock.

This Past Week on the Blog:

This Coming Week on the Blog:

Sunday - Book Review: Charlie Thorne and the Curse of Cleopatra by Stuart Gibbs
Monday - TV Show Review: Obi-Wan Kenobi
Tuesday - Book Review: Muddled Through by Barbara Ross
Wednesday - Book Review: A Test of Wills by Charles Todd
Thursday - June 2022 Reading Summary
Friday - Friday Post
Saturday - Weekly TV Thoughts

Book Haul:

Once again, I got four new books this week.  I'd won Death on the Set by Rose Kerr from the author during her appearance on The Bookish Hour, and it arrived.  I am working on back collecting the non-Mrs. Pollifax books by Dorothy Gilman, and I got two of those - The Tightrope Walker and Uncertain Voyage.  Finally, I got Death in the Aegean by M. A. Monnin.  I keep meaning to start some travel related cozies, and this one looks great with the Greek Isles setting.

Of course, the problem is, I don't know when I will get to any of these since my July reading schedule is pretty much set already.  That's my problem.  I buy books because I truly do want to read them, but I buy more than I read.  It's a vicious cycle that took years to perfect.  Oh, who am I kidding.  It happened without me trying at all.

What I'm Currently Reading:

I'm just about done with The Drop by Michael Connelly, the audio book I started last weekend.  I should be able to finish that up this weekend.  It's been very good.

I'm working on two eARCs as well.  My goal is to finish A Perilous Pal by Laura Bradford on Sunday and start on Death by Bubble Tea by Jennifer J. Chow on Monday.  They both come out the first week of July, and I need to be read to review them.  I'm a big fan of Laura Bradford, and I've been enjoying this book.  I haven't read anything from Jennifer yet, but I'm looking forward to it since I know she has lots of fans.

Hope you have a fantastic week!

  2. The tone of your blog makes it a joy to read! Who could resist the cover of A Perilous Pal? I also obtain more books than I can possible read - not to mention my TBR! Happy reading!

We play Frisbee in my Aqua Fit class. We make a big circle and twenty of us send five Frisbees across to the other side of the circle. We are terrible but it's great fun.

  7. I’m glad you’ve had a great long weekend so far. 4 day work weeks are much better for some work-life balance. Death on the Aegean looks good to me as I enjoy books set in places I’ve visited. Have a great week!

  8. Sounds like a good long weekend.

Those books look good. I want to try and read books set in different places. I did fairly well last month. I do a lot of Blog Tours so my reading is pretty planned. I have slowed down for August (mainly because I am on holiday, but I genuinely need to slow down)

    Have a great week ahead!

  9. The Drowning Sea sounds intriguing - I love stories that immerse you in another country/culture. We are a frisbee family here.....my hubby & sons are avid disc golfers and my older son has played ultimate for quite a while though he was out last season due to an injury. I think most steady readers share your problem of stacks of books you just can't find the time to get to.....they'll still be there when you're ready, and that's the best part!

  10. Just finished The Drowning Sea yesterday and loved it! Paddle boarding sounds like a fun way to stay cool. I know it's been hot in SoCal! We recently moved from SoCal to NorCal and while it's hot here too it's not as hot as down south. Stay cool and happy reading! :)

  11. Glad you had a nice long weekend. I want to read the Laura Bradford book. I enjoyed the first one. I also have the Jennifer Chow book to read. That looks good. I hope you enjoy your books and have a great week!

  12. I took Friday off too. I wanted to go to a talk at the library. So I only worked 3 days last week (we had Monday off for Juneteenth). I will work 5 days this week and then have a 3 day weekend of July 4.

You have some fun looking cozy mysteries on your list that I haven't read. Check out my summer catch up at Girl Who Reads.

  14. It has even been hot up here in Santa Barbara though we've got fog each morning. I think it was over 100 when I was in Northridge earlier today. That is just too hot for me.

  18. I understand you frustration about buying more books than you have time to read. I do that all the time myself. I enjoyed the Miss Pollifax mysteries. I should reread them to see if they still have the same magic for me. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

  19. So many excellent cosy mystery readers out there. I haven't read anything by Laura Bradford but will keep her in mind. Sounds like work busy but still making sure you are getting in some summer fun

  20. I worked 4-10 hour shifts for years and loved it. Then that job changed to 3-12 hour shifts. That was just exhausting. I was too tired to do anything on my days off. I left that job and went to 5-8 hour shifts. That's the WORST. There was no time to do anything! My husband was doing 4-10 hour days but we couldn't take advantage of that extra day off. I hope a four day workweek becomes a standard.

My husband's cousin visited us from San Diego this weekend. They were talking about the perfect weather they've been having lately. We've only been to SoCal in the winter and early spring.

I read the Mrs. Pollifax books as a teen but haven't read them since. I should give them another go sometime.

    Enjoy your week!

  21. Here’s to a four day working week. Sounds perfect! I’m looking forward to the return of Summer, it’s quite cold here in Sydney, Australia. Enjoy your new books when you get to them.

  22. I am so sad that Laura Bradford's Friend for Hire series isn't available at any of my libraries. Happy reading this week.

  23. Having lived in Greece for almost 2 years Death in the Aegean caught my eye too, will be curious to hear your thoughts!

  24. Sounds like you are out getting fun exercise.
BTW - you are right that cooking "eats" into reading time. But not so much since I listen to audio. The time consuming part is researching recipes on the internet.
I have enjoyed a couple of Gilman mysteries.
Have a good week and Happy Reading!

  25. We are in full heat and humidity which I could put up with but the mosquitos are keeping me inside. I am not a fan of those evil little bugs. A Perilous Pal looks so cute and I am looking forward to reading the non-Mrs. Pollifax Gilman books. I think I'm going to wait until I finish Mrs. Pollifax but we shall see. Hope you are having a wonderful week.
