January 8th's Sunday/Monday Post

We are a week into 2023 already.  How crazy is that?  Must mean it is time for another Sunday/Monday post.  As usual, I'll be linking up to:

It's Monday, What Are You Reading?

Before we get to this week, I realized I left out some things about last week.  Both happened on the Wednesday between Christmas and New Year.

First, my best friend and his family were driving through town, and they stopped by for lunch.  I met them at a pizza place here by my condo.  They'd just spent the day before at Disneyland, so we mostly talked about that, but it was great to see them.  It had been a year since I'd last seen them.

That night, I went to see Straight No Chaser in concert.  I had hoped they'd do more Christmas songs since those are the ones I know the best, but I still had fun.  And I had a great seat, too.  In the middle about 8 rows from the front of the stage.

So that was last week.  What about this week?

Honestly, nothing to report.  And this time, I mean it.  😀  It was close at work all week.  They gave us an extra day, which didn't really do much for me.  I was still done in three days, so I started on a project I'm going to have to do early this month.  I think I got it done.  Then I logged in and worked a couple of hours on Saturday as well.

Boy did it rain here this week.  Not as much as in Northern California, but we still got plenty of rain.  It kept me from running until Friday.  But my lunch time run on Friday was great.  Sunshine and fresh smelling air.  Not as warm as I would have liked, but it was still great.  And I went paddle boarding Saturday as well.  The next storm is supposed to hit us on Monday, so had to enjoy it while I could.

And yes, as you'll see, I did figure out my schedule for the blog this past week.  Honestly, not too long after I did last week's post, things finally started clicking for me.

As a teaser, on Monday, I'll be posting my favorite books of 2022, so I hope you'll stop back by and see what I read.

Book Haul:

I've just to two new books this week.  Which is more than I need after all the books I got for Christmas, right?  But I had pre-ordered Vinyl Resting Place by Olivia Blacke, and it arrived this week.  This isn't the only record store related cozy series that's started in the last year.  I now have both debuts and haven't read either one.  Hmm, I'm sensing a theme week coming up at some point.  Now, to figure out when.

(Yes, I do have theme weeks for the reviews on my blog every so often.  I usually don't announce them, however.  Sometimes, it just two reviews; sometimes more.  Tell me I'm not the only one who does that.)

My other new review was a historical that crossed my radar this week.  A Quiet Life in the Country by T. E. Kinsey sounds like it could be a lot of fun.  It's about a Lady and her maid who move to the country.  And get involved in mysteries, of course.  I mean, this is me.  Got to have a dead body or two.

What I'm Currently Reading:

Because of the extra I worked and running at lunch time on Friday, I haven't made it as far as I had hoped into Where the Guilty Hide, the first in a new series from Annette Dashofy.  That's no reflection on her or the book, which I am loving.  Real life just gets in the way.

At this point, I'm guessing I will finish it up on Monday.  Up next will be Irish Coffee Murder, a St. Patrick's Day novella collection from Leslie Meier, Lee Hollis, and Barbara Ross.  Barbara Ross is the reason I am picking this collection up, but I often enjoy the other stories in the collection.

That's a wrap for me.  Have a great week.

  1. Rain is such a good thing in the West this month. I know they say the drought isn’t really over, but I hope it will be.

  3. Ahhh I want to spend the day at Disneyland! I envy your friends. Have you ever been to Disneyworld? I came across something that said Disneyworld passholders are getting a special Dumbo magnet and elephants are my thing so now I'm wishing I was a Disneyworld passholder just to get that Dumbo. LOL I have NOT been to Disneyworld. It's on my bucket list.

  4. I have to get my Best of 2022 post out too. Glad you had a good week. Here it's mostly been dreary weather, some snow. A Quiet Life in the Country sounds pretty good.

  7. This might sound crazy, but...I've never been anywhere Disney---not Land or World.

It will be interesting to see which books you picked as your favorites of the year. You read so many mysteries. I'm curious about which ones you like best.

  9. The rain in So Cal has been wonderful and I am ready for more! I have a college friend arriving today so we'll probably end up doing puzzles, etc since it's supposed to be really heavy rain.

  11. Your books look good! We've been having cold (for Florida) weather and I'm not liking it. I like my cold with a side of snow.

  12. Rain for you, snow for me. At least rain doesn't pile up and linger for months. I have never had a theme week on purpose on my blog, but sometimes the books will form unconsciously

  17. How fun to see Straight No Chaser live. I live in the upper midwest and we have no snow on the ground at the moment. Highly unusual. I hope the rain storms calm and you get more chances to be out on the water. Have a good week and happy reading.

  23. I remember when rain would keep me from riding my bike to work. Eventually the itch to ride would become so great that I would put on all my rain gear, stash a plastic bag full of a set of dry clothes in the saddle bag, and head off.
It doesn't rain here where I now live, so I don't know why I don't ride anymore. Maybe because I don't work?
    Happy reading this week.
