March 6th's Book Beginnings and Friday 56

This week is coming in for a landing.  Let's help it along with a little Book Beginnings and Friday 56, shall we?

This week's book is Death Is Like a Box of Chocolates by Kathy Aarons.

I actually just finished the book earlier this evening, and I enjoyed it.  You can check back for my review on Tuesday.

But in the meantime, here's how it begins:

"I don't do cupcakes," I told Erica, who obviously hadn't been listening to me in the two years we'd been best friends.

And I just flipped to page 56 and found a wonderful quote to use for that:

For the second time in my life, and the second time in one day, I was surrounded by police officers.

Before I go, I do want to put in another plug for the page I run on Facebook - First Line Monday.  It's much like what we do with Book Beginnings, only on Monday on Facebook.  Any and all readers are welcome to join.  I just ask that you don't flood the page (and yes, I stupidly set it up as a page when I opened it) with links to your blog.  I don't even post my own blog posts on the page.  It's just about sharing first lines once a week.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend.  I'm playing in an ultimate Frisbee tournament on Saturday (supposed to be 80 here in Southern California), and then I turn 40 on Sunday.  And if you want to get me something, joining First Line Monday and sharing a line this week would be a wonderful gift.

  4. Sounds like a fun mystery. Enjoy your birthday weekend and the beautiful weather. Think of us in Boston where the snow is piled up blocking windows in some places.

    1. I certainly hope you get some warmer weather soon. We could definitely use more rain, but it's hard to complain about nice weather like this.

    1. You know, that's a great question. What do cupcakes have to do with police this time? ;)

Thanks! I see lots of ultimate in my weekend, which is usually the sign of a great weekend in my eyes.

  7. This one has been on my TBR for awhile but now I definitely want to read it! Plus, how can you not do cupcakes? Cupcakes are tiny little cakes of heaven!

    1. I'm not super big on cupcakes or cake. I much prefer pie personally. Or brownies.

  8. This sounds like a fun book, starting with the first line. I enjoy stories that feature good friends. The Page 56 excerpt made me wonder why in the world she has been surrounded by the police -- twice!
Best of luck with First Line Monday. I'll mark it on my calendar and plan to participate.
