August 28th's Sunday/Monday Post

Hi, everyone.  It's time for another Sunday/Monday post, which I will be linking up to:

It's Monday, What Are You Reading?

It's been a couple of weeks since I did this, and I have a very good excuse.  Last weekend, I was in Buellton with family.  Haven't seen any family since March, so it was wonderful.  My parents drove down in their trailer, and they brought my niece and nephew with them.  No, the location wasn't the draw, although we did go into Solvang for a few hours one afternoon.  The draw was just getting to hang out.  We played games at the trailer (I may have finally learned how to play Pinochle - we'll see what I remember later), and visited with some family friends who have moved to the area.  Nothing fancy, but it was a wonderful break.

Because work has exploded into a nightmare.  I worked five hours on Saturday, and I'm thinking I might have as many hours to work Sunday as well.  I'm already thinking I'm going to have to work all three days next weekend, and full days, not partial days like I'm doing this weekend.  Which is seriously cutting into my reading time!

I did take this morning to myself, however, and went paddle boarding with a couple of friends.  It was great to be out on the water, as always.

Book Haul:

It's been a couple of weeks, so that means I've got several books to talk about.

First up is a collection of the Pot Thief Mysteries by J. Michael Orenduff.  They've been on my radar for a while, so when I saw a Kindle collection of the first three on sale, I snagged them.

Likewise, when The Art of the Decoy by Trish Esden went on sale, I grabbed that one, too.  I've heard good things about it, so I am looking forward to it.

From the library, I snagged Anne of Green Gables by L. M. Montgomery in audio.  I listened to about half of it driving to and from the visit with my family last weekend, and I finished it up this week.

I signed up for a blog tour of Buttercream Betrayal, the fifth Cupcake Catering mystery from Kim Davis, so I got an ARC of that book.

Finally, my pre-order of Six Feet Deep Dish by Mindy Quigley arrived this week.

That ought to keep me busy for a while, right?  Especially since I don't know when I will get to most of them.

What I'm Currently Reading:

My original goal was to finish up Death in the Aegean by M. A. Monnin on Saturday.  That's not going to happen.  In fact, after all the time I spent working, I'll be lucky if I get much read at all.  Which is a shame because I'm really enjoying the book and I need to know what happens next.

Hopefully, I will get it finished on Sunday because I have Murder at Keyhaven Castle by Clara McKenna waiting in the wings.  I'm really looking forward to diving into the third in that historical mystery series.

That's a wrap for this week.  Hope you have a good week.

  2. Oh my! Your work has really ballooned. When I was a classroom teacher I worked 60-70 hours a week. It was unrelenting during the school year. I do hope your workload gets smaller soon.

I'm glad you were able to spend time with family. Pinochle has always sounded interesting to me.

I wonder what you think about Anne of Green Gables. She's a favorite character of mine.

  4. Every time I see a picture of Six Feet Deep Dish, I get a craving for pizza. I had planned on reading Anne of Green Gables before the end of summer. Not sure that will happen at this point. I'm behind on cozies, so I want to start reading more of those again. I hope your upcoming week goes smoothly. :)

  5. Your time with family sounds great!

I've been working a few weeks at a time and working overtime, with only 2 days off. It's getting very old. I hope it slows down soon for both of us.

  6. Work sounds so busy for you! I hope it gets better soon.

Meeting up with your family must have been great fun and a good break from work.

The books all look good. I want to read Anne of Green Gables although I have wanted to for many, many years.

Hope that you have a great week ahead.

  8. I hate it when life gets in the way of a good book! Sounds like your work/life balance is suffering right now - hope it stops soon so you have time to do more of what you love! Several years I broke down and learned pinochle but we only play every few months and I still sometimes need a little refresher. I rarely win, but it's really fun. Hanging with family and games sounds SO great!

  11. Glad you got a bit of a break to hang out with your family and Solvang is on my places to visit list. I'm sorry work is so crazy but hopefully it will get better soon. You did pick up some fantastic books though. I'm very interested in The Art of the Decoy and Anne of Green Gables is one of my favorites. Have a great week!

  14. Ah, that sounds like a wonderful and relaxing family vacation! My dad used to love Pinochle, but I never learned how to play (he did teach me poker when I was a kid - lol)

Looks like some great books for you recently. I never read Anne of Green Gables as a kid but just read it a few years ago and loved it.

Enjoy your books this week -

  17. I just started a new position so now am in administration, and gone are my morning and afternoon breaks and leaving on time at the end of the day! I hope things will settle down for you and me, both. We need our reading/blogging time!

  18. I can't complain about work getting in the way of my reading so far this week. Instead, we have my son and his family visiting. The only reading I'm getting accomplished is the picture and chapter books I'm reading with my two granddaughters!
