Pros: Great details bring a funny scene to life
Cons: Paint can be off
for Chip 'n' Dale on some ornaments
The Bottom Line:
Funny Christmas scene
With three Disney characters
What is not to love?
The last two years, Hallmark has decided to release four “Reveal
Ornaments” in October. While the picture
and name isn’t revealed until their October debut event, they release clues
throughout the year to heighten anticipation.
In 2011, it didn’t work for me, but this year I just had to buy one of
them. Half-Off Hijinks! was just too
much fun.
This particular ornament is a Disney ornament featuring
Goofy and Chip ‘n’ Dale. Goofy is
leaning on a sign that says, “Trees 1/2 Off!”
Chip ‘n’ Dale have a tree on the ground in front of the sign and a saw
right next to it. They are ready to take
half off that tree. Poor Goofy knows
something about what they are doing isn’t right, but he can’t quite figure out
what that is. He’s got one hand on his
head to scratch it and the puzzled look on his face is priceless.
And it’s that look on his face that made me laugh, endeared
the ornament to me, and made me buy it.
It’s just so funny, how could you not love it? Okay, I will admit that Goofy is a favorite
Disney character, so that helps.
The attention to detail on this ornament is good. You’ve got Goofy plus the two chipmunks to
fit on this scene. Considering all that,
the details are fun and really help bring things to life. I noticed the paint on Chip ‘n’ Dale could be
slightly off, but it’s the kind of thing you only notice when you really look closely. On normal viewing, like on a lit Christmas
tree, you’ll never notice.
Another plus for this ornament is the Christmas theme. While Hallmark does many Disney ornaments
each year, very few of them are really centered on the holiday. This one certainly is, so it should appeal to
Disney lovers and those who want to keep their decorations to more of a
Christmas theme.
Because this is more of a scene, the ornament has a flat
base. That means you can either hang it
on your tree or display it elsewhere in your house at Christmas time.
If you do decide to hang the ornament, you’ll find that it
tips back ever so slightly. It's not
enough to look bad or awkward, and it actually provides a better angle for
viewing Goofy's face. Frankly, I think
it's a good thing.
