Hallmark Captures an Iconic Lion King Moment

Every movie has a moment or two that immediately pop in your head when you think of them.  For The Lion King, one of those moments is from the very beginning when the cub Simba is presented to the animals as their future king.  In 2012, Hallmark capture that moment perfectly in The Circle Of Life.

While an ornament based on that scene could be large, this one is actually rather small in scope since it features just Rafiki the baboon and the cub Simba.  Yes, Rafiki is standing on the rock, but it’s just the very tip that is included in the ornament.  He has Simba lifted over his head.  Simba, for his part, has a bewildered look on his face just like in the movie since he’s too young to understand what is happening.

Really, this ornament takes a very small part of that scene and captures it in 3D.  Those who love the movie will be thrilled to get this ornament since it so perfectly captures the iconic moment.

But we aren’t done yet.  This is a magic ornament, which in this case means it includes sound.  And what better sound to include than something from the scene.  Yes, when you press the button on the very front of the rock, you’ll hear a 30 second clip from “Circle of Life.”  And if they aren’t using the actual soundtrack from the movie, they’ve found an identical match.  This version of the song is a very important part of this iconic scene, and, unlike other Hallmark ornaments, this one uses the real deal.  The ornament does require two button batteries for the sound clip to work, and your first set is included with the ornament for you.

My one issue with the ornament is that it has nothing to do with Christmas, but that’s a minor point.  If you agree with me, you can always set this out to display and enjoy year round.  The base is nice and flat – it is rock after all – so you can set it out and enjoy.

However, if you chose to hang it on your tree, you'll find the hook on the back of Rafiki's head.  When you look at the bottom of the ornament, it looks tilted, but when you look at Rafiki and Simba, it sure looks level to me.  And we're talking a very small tilt anyway.  When you look at how extended the ornament is, that's pretty amazing.

For fans of The Lion King, this is a great ornament.  I don’t think you could capture this classic moment any better than The Circle Of Life if you tried.
