Donald Just Can't Slip Anything By His Nephews

It wasn’t until very late in 2009 that I began collecting Hallmark ornaments.  So late in fact, that I got most of the ones from that year at after Christmas sales.  That’s how I spotted the gem Wise to the Disguise.  Being a Disney fan, I just had to get it.

The ornament features Donald had his three nephews, Huey, Dewey, and Louise.  Donald has dressed up as Santa for the boys, and is sitting in a burgundy chair.  But the three aren’t fall for it.  Louise is up at the top, taking the hat off Donald’s head.  Dewey has the fake beard off Donald’s face and is pulling it further away.  And Huey is taking a pillow out from under Donald’s red coat.  And Donald, for his part, has his mouth open in a desperate attempt to yell the boys into leaving him alone.  One arm is around Dewey, who is sitting on his uncle's lap, while the other arm is sticking straight out in what looks like a futile effort to get them to stop.

And I love it.  The ornament is standard Hallmark size, which with four characters on it makes them all on the small size.  But there is so much going on here with all three of the nephews taking on a different part of Santa’s disguise.  You can look at this one for quite a while and find new details all the time.

The humor of it is fun as well.  Poor Donald was trying to do something fun for his nephews, but they aren’t falling for it at all.  And with three on one, he doesn’t stand a chance.

I suppose it might cause confusion for those with young kids who believe in Santa, but parents could explain that Donald was pretending for Huey, Dewey, and Louise.

The chair has four legs (shocking, I know), and they are at the bottom of the ornament.  Since they are touching the ground, this ornament can be displayed on any flat surface.

The ring for hanging the ornament is on the hat Louise has pulled from Donald's head.  The ornament tips slightly to the front left corner, but you'd wisely disguise that with the branches from your Christmas tree.

Wise to the Disguise is just plain fun.  And the fact that it stars the little seen Huey, Dewey, and Louise, makes it even better.  It’s worth your time to track down this ornament.
