Pros: Great looking ornament
Cons: Balance off so
the ornament tips forward
The Bottom Line:
Supporting character
That, balance issues aside
Makes great ornament
After getting the ornaments in the official Star Wars line,
I started looking at some of the stand alone Hallmark ornaments to see if there
were any I wanted to get. I immediately
jumped at the Imperial Stormtrooper.
Released in 2000, this ornament is a lot of fun.
Since the Stormtroopers in the movie are the soldiers of the
Empire, this isn't one of the good guys I'm happy to have on my tree. However, these characters are such an
important part of the franchise that I just had to have him.
Just like the character in the movies, this ornament is
almost completely white. The joints are
black, but that's the only other color you'll see. He's got a helmet on his head that looks a
bit like a face mask merged with a bucket.
(I realize what I just wrote is blasphemy to the Star Wars faithful, but
it's true. And I'm not saying I don't
like it. That's just what it reminds me
of.) In his hands, he's holding a rifle
ready to shoot.
Since the official Star Wars ornament series released Han as
a Stormtrooper in 2009, I thought I'd bring that one back out to compare. These are indeed two different sculpts. Han's legs are further apart and he's
pointing his gun more horizontally.
Obviously, much is similar, but I was glad to see they didn't just
recycle 90% of things.
While he's a little shaky on his feet, you can display the
Stormtrooper standing up if you want. A
good bump will knock him over, however.
The hook for hanging him is actually on his back between his
shoulder blades. Because it's so low, he
does lean forward quite a bit. You can
partially correct that by placement on the tree. I wish the hook were on top of his helmet for
better balance, however.
