Stars: 4 out of 5

At the thought of being part
Of your Christmas tree

Yee Haw!  It's Jessie the Cowgirl as a Christmas Ornament

Since Hallmark started making ornaments based on Toy Story, they've done lots with Woody and Buzz, but very few with the rest of the gang.  They branched out a little in 2010 with Jessie, and she seems thrilled to be included.

As you'll remember from the movies, Jessie is a cowgirl doll that is one of a series of toys released with Woody the Sheriff.  Here's she's dressed in her cow patterned pants, boots, and Western shirt.  But the other thing to remember about Jessie is that she is very enthusiastic and almost always in motion.  That's captured here as well.  No, the ornament doesn't move, but Jessie obviously jumping for joy.  Her left leg is bent at the knee and about as high as it can be.  She's got her red hat in her right hand, and it's high above her head, and her braid of hair is swinging to one side.  As always with Hallmark ornaments, the details are wonderful.

My only real hesitation with the ornament is the size.  Jessie seems small to me, although the reality is she's not any smaller than this year's companion piece, High Flyin' Friends.  I've actually compared her to some other ornaments on my tree, and height wise, she's just about perfect.  I think the issue becomes her width.  Jessie is very narrow, meaning her arms and legs are thin.  This makes her seem pretty fragile, and it seems especially likely that her hat could be snapped off her hand.  She's plastic, so it would probably take some work to actually break her, but she looks more fragile to me than many of my other Hallmark ornaments.

Because of her jumping in the air pose, the only way you can display this ornament is by using the hook in the top of her head to hang her.  When I hang her, she certainly looks like she's hanging straight to me, and the way it looks is pretty much all that matters.

For Toy Story fans, getting Jessie is an obvious choice.  Not only is she a new character from the series, but her personality is perfectly captured.  Hopefully they do something similar with other characters in years to come.

Original Price: $14.95
