Pros: Cute small ornament with a cool light
Cons: A few details
might be loss due to size
The Bottom Line:
A small Jiminy
Perfectly captured from film
With a light up badge
I’m enough of a Disney fan that when the idea of seeing how
many Disney characters I could get as Christmas ornaments was presented to me,
it sounded like a fun goal. That meant
that Hallmark’s 2011 release Jiminy Cricket was automatically on my radar. And he was well worth buying.
I did hesitate because this is a miniature ornament. It’s only a couple inches tall, which often
means that it doesn’t have the detail that Hallmark’s larger ornaments do. But in the case of Jiminy, he’s a
cricket. His being small seemed perfect
for the smaller size.
Honestly, I’m not sure how he would be any better
bigger. Jiminy is standing in the new
clothes he gets in the movie Pinocchio.
He’s even leaning on his umbrella.
It must be the end of the movie because he is holding a badge that would
say “Official Conscience” on it if there were room. That’s the only area where detail would have
been nice. When it comes to his face,
you can clearly see all his features.
There aren’t many details to his clothes, but he looks like anyway.
Hallmark has added a little Magic to this ornmanet in the
form of light. There is a button on the
base of the ornament between Jiminy’s feet.
When you press it, a light turns on in his badge. It only stays on as long as you are holding
the button down, but you can use that to make it flash as if it’s caught the
light.
To allow for the batteries to operate the light (and some
mechanics, I’m sure), Jiminy is standing on a circular platform. It’s just barely big enough to hold the two
small button batteries the ornament needs to light up. Don’t worry, the first set is included for
you.
Because of that base, the ornament sits flat in case you
want to display it year round. There is
a small hook in the front of Jiminy’s hat, and when you hang the ornament, it
tips forward slightly. It’s noticeable
if you are looking for it, but it’s not so bad that it interferes with how the
ornament looks at all.
