Pros: Captures a fun moment
Cons: Fragile
The Bottom Line:
With
this ornament
You can fly! Either
that or
Decorate your tree
As long as I can remember, I've been a huge fan of Disney's
Peter Pan, and one of my favorite sequences is when they are flying over London . This year, Disney released an ornament that
captures part of that scene, and as soon as I saw it, I knew I had to get it.
This ornament is basically a cube with a four sided spire on
top. The four sides are the four sides
of the famous clock Big Ben in London . There is definitely a front to this ornament
since Peter Pan and Wendy are sitting on one side. They are in front of the clock hovering as if
they are flying. John is holding on to
the spire above them. Michael and his
teddy bear are over on the face of the clock to the right.
I'm rather surprised to find that Tinkerbell isn't anywhere
on the ornament. Considering how popular
a character she is, I figured they'd use any excuse to get her on an ornament.
There are clouds around the clock as well, little greenish
blue shapes with glitter on them. I
really like that touch, and the glitter isn't so bad that it gets everywhere.
Of course, the big problem with the ornament is
perspective. In the movie (and in real
life), the kids were small enough to all stand on the arm of the clock. Here, there's no way that would work. Granted, if they did make this ornament to
scale, either the kids would just be specs or the clock would be way too big to
sit on a tree.
As it is, the ornament is a bit on the large side since each
side of the clock is roughly two inches across.
It's the same size as the other ornaments that Disney has released this
year, however. And since it is a little
larger, it allows us to really see the detail.
The character's faces are great, perfectly capturing the way they looked
in the movie. Trust me, there's no
missing what this ornament is depicting.
Disney sells their ornaments with a ribbon already through
the hook to hand the ornament.
Naturally, the hook is at the top of the clock in the middle. Since this is a perfect cube, it is perfectly
balanced and hangs straight.
The ornament is made out of a fragile form of plaster. That makes it a bit lighter, but it also
means you can break it easily by dropping it.
Even if you don't drop it, you'll want to treat it carefully since
things sticking out like John, Peter Pan's elbow, and part of Wendy's dress
would break off easily.
