Chewbacca Makes His Ornament Debut as a Series Companion Piece

One of the big mysteries of Hallmark's Star Wars ornaments is their treatment of Chewbacca.  Everyone knows you don't upset a Wookie, so why they wouldn't plan to include him as a solo ornament in their official Star Wars series is a mystery.  However, the fact that he was released in 1999 does help answer the question.  That year saw the release of a Han Solo ornament.  And what better companion ornament than his extremely loyal best friend Chewbacca?

Once I get over the fact that this isn't part of the official Star Wars series, I actually like the ornament.  Since Chewie is a Wookie, that means he's a big, hairy beast.  Okay, so the ornament isn't hairy, but they do capture the look pretty well.  The plastic is layered with lots of texture to make it look like he's got hair on him.  While he's mostly chocolate brown, there are parts that are a lighter shade.  Not only does this help the ornament stand out, but it also recreates the character as he appears in the movies.

In his hands, Chewie is holding a Wookie bowcaster.  He's slightly crouched as if he's ready to shoot at any second.  And he's got a bag with a silver strap over his shoulder.

Because of his slight crouch, he's not too stable on his feet.  Yes, you can get the ornament to stand up if you want to, but I would think a small bump would send him crashing down.  I didn't want to test this theory for fear he would land on his bowcaster and break it.  Don't get me wrong, it doesn't look like a little bump would break it; I just don't want to risk it.

Of course, you really buy ornaments to hang on your tree.  There's a brass ring at the base of his neck for just that purpose.  He leans slightly forward and to one side, but we're talking very slight.  One you get him on your tree, you'll never notice.

They have figured out how to get Chewbacca in the official Star War series but coupling him with someone else.  Hopefully they work him in solo at some point as well.  Not that he really needs the honor because this ornament will serve fans just fine.
