Stars: 5 out of 5
Pros: Taste great
Cons: Not even remotely healthy on any level at all ever
The Bottom Line:
Enjoy as a treat
But chips not very healthy
So don't eat daily

Sour Cream with a Hint of Cheddar Flavor

Recently, Lay's seems to be experimenting with fun new flavors for their potato chips.  While I am hooked on their Limon flavor, I still enjoy having some of their "classic" flavors, and Cheddar and Sour Cream is one I grab quite regularly.

Now I am a cheddar fan, the sharper the better.  In fact, I splurge for some delicious extra sharp cheddar for my sandwiches.  These chips don't have that flavor at all.  In fact, cool sour cream is the dominant flavor.  Considering I also like sour cream, I'm not complaining.  There is a hint of a cheese flavor to things, but it's not the main thing you taste.  Regardless, these taste great, and I can eat handfuls of them.

And anything that tastes that good can't be good for you, right?  Absolutely.  And these chips are no exception.  They come in a ten ouch bag, and one tenth of that bag has 160 calories, 90 of them from fat.  Considering I usually eat a bag in four or five sittings, you can see the problem.  And they are pretty much empty calories since the only nutrient on the bag I currently have in double digits is vitamin C at 10%.

And that's not surprising when you look at the ingredients.  While potatoes are currently the first ingredient listed, it's immediately followed by vegetable oil.  As you go down, you'll see seasonings, more oil, and butter.  Yep, nothing really healthy for you here.

But oh do they taste so good.

These are Lay's classic smooth potato chips.  If you must have ridges, you can get the same flavor from sister brand Ruffles.

So Lay's Cheddar and Sour Cream potato chips taste great and are good for the occasional snack.  But I should probably cut down on how often I eat them since they are nothing but lots and lots of empty calories.
