Pros: Great detail of Belle and Beast
Cons: A tad on the big
and heavy side
The Bottom Line:
Nice, romantic pose
Belle and Beast look so happy
Bit on the large size
With Beauty and the Beast hitting Blu-Ray in 2010, Disney obviously thought it was time to promote those characters again. Part of that promotion was three ornaments they
released for Christmas in 2010. And the
heart of these ornament is Belle and Beast from their big romantic moment.
The ornament features Belle and Beast in the clothes they
dressed up in for their dinner and dance.
That means Belle is wearing her yellow dress, and Beast is in his blue
and yellow suit. They are close together
with Belle's left hand in Beast's right.
Belle's right hand is touching Beast's face. It's a cute pose.
The detail is wonderful.
You can easily see the happy expression on both of their faces. I was especially surprised by the level of
detail in Beast's face. His fangs and
eyes are quite visible, as is the fur around his face. The paint on his back feet is a little
sloppy, at least on mine, but that's the only real flaw there.
The two figures are standing on a platform that is decorated
to look like the ballroom floor. Most of
it is covered by Belle's dress, but most importantly it means that the ornament
sits level if you want to display it year round.
There is a red ribbon through a hook at the top of Beast's
head so it is easy to hang the ornament on your tree. The ornament tips back every so slightly when
hung, but it's not enough to be a problem.
The biggest issue with the ornament is size. It's about four inches tall, meaning you
can't just slip it any place on your tree.
I find bigger ornaments get hard to place the later I want to put them
on my tree because all the big spots are gone.
Even stranger, the other ornaments in this series are about the same
size, so Belle and Beast wind up looking small even at this size.
Because of the size, the ornament is a bit on the heavy
side. However, the plaster they used is
light enough that it's not as heavy as it could be, either. The ornament feels fragile, so you'll want to
be careful as you hang it and store it every year.
While there is great detail all around, there is definitely a
front side to this ornament. Naturally,
this means I have to hang it two or three times to get it facing the correct
direction. Granted, that is the case
with most ornaments, but this felt especially that way.
